I swapped from the OEM to the Mugen CF shift knob and it's been a great upgrade. The OEM metal is kinda terrible outside of just for show.

My issue now is that the Mugen sits a bit lower and for daily purposes it's fine, but when on track I can see it being an issue being low. The OEM height may be ok, but something with not metal

anyone have any good recommendations (no extenders)?

Thanks

+1 on that shift knob. I stopped using it after I installed The Hybrid racing shifter though. Best mod for me along with the lower motor mount .......... ;-)
I was actually thinking about this. I was like instead of spending $140+ on another shift knob, might as well get the entire shifter. not sure how I feel about the mod though as every magazine says the OEM shifter is so great

We are all different and I know that some people would rather have the stock shifter. I could not believe how nice that shifter was until I installed it for myself. That thing makes me throw rocks at the stock shifter. I have installed 4 of those shifters now and every person said that they are not going back to stock ever ............. food for thought ;-)

I have read that Acuity is coming out with their own shifter soon for the FL5. I would be interested to hear other forum members thoughts when they get one installed .......... ;-)

Can you reuse the OEM shift boot? I don't want a hole in the console

Sure can ......... that is the way my brother wanted it on his DE5. He also uses the Acuity insulated shift knob with the factory boot.

I love the metal knob. Like the feel and the weight of it so not looking to switch.
People seem to like the spoon knob though and its not that expensive (suprised there)

Would like to try a hybrid or the Acuity when it comes out just to see the difference but what I really want is a CAE

i loved it until i swapped it and then realized I was wincing before I touched the new knob the next day....guess I had some PTSD after burning my hands a few times

ahha yeah I can see that. I have not had an issue as its not a daily, stays in the garage so does not get that hot, I also got a cover in case I have to park it in the sun for a while. And I don't drive it in winter. If I did id change it for sure.

I just love the look and the feel of the metal, its great. That said I had an alcantara knob on my old M2 and I loved that too so if I ever change it on this would have to be alcantara

Yup, I had the FL5 aluminum shift knob in my Sport Touring. It was great until one day it was super hot and I felt like it burnt an imprint of the shift tree on to my hand lol. The Acuity knob is pretty great for what you described you wanted, its taller like the FL5 knob, but its insulated so no burning hands. I'm currently using the Billetworkz Fusion shift knob. Its pricey, but the extra weight feels so nice shifting gears.

the Poco seems too small for my hands and the Esco looks too tall. wish there was something in-between from Acuity. maybe a teardrop shape. what do you think?
