Id never be an instructor because I am a terrible passenger but I really appreciate everyone who instructs. I have had some really good instructors, a couple of bad ones but the good ones outweigh the bad ones by a ten fold.

You will do great, seems like you are a great communicator and that's one of the most important parts.

We need more instructors, I have seen some novices going out with no instructor because not enough were avail and that sucks
I'm surprised they were allowed out by themselves! I've never seen that happen!

Don't assume drivers know any of the terms you're using. Having just come back to HPDE after a long break I forgot some terms.

Also I had a lot of luck when my last instructor just had me drive a few laps with no instruction just to see what I had picked up. That was enjoyable to get a chance to just drive and try on my own. he was still in car just not giving input unless needed to avoid an issue
It makes me curious about who I will be paired with. Have they driven on track before? Is this their first time ever? Etc....

My friends also tell me to be wary of those that are hyper confident, but have a low skill set.

there is 1 club around here that is very very very laxed. I mean at least they gave instructors to people that had never once done a track day but they did not have enough so novices that had a few track days were allowed to go without from what I was told.

But then again, track night in america there are no instructors for novice either which I always thought was not great.

SCCA track nights send out novices by themselves after 1 paced session. We had a blast, but was surprised they have no instructors ride along, especially with people with 0 track experience.

From what my buddy, who has been through this, is telling me. That they don't even teach you how to be an instructor. They just teach you how to be a NASA employee. Seems a bit strange, but it makes sense since there was such variance in the messages that I received from my instructors. Really no consistency at all. All I know is, I want to do a really good job.
Makes sense to me. You can’t teach someone to be a good teacher. Just as much as being a fast driver doesn’t make you a good instructor. Depending on your pupil, your communication style will need to change and depending on their skill set and what they are doing, your instruction changes. How you’re as instructor, effective or not, is from the pupil’s point of view.

Don’t over think it, don’t grade yourself. At the end of the day, not everyone can be a good instructor.

You close your visor? I always keep mine open. With that attachment you can still close your visor, well...all but the last few millimeters.

I usually just leave like half a finger of it open but mostly closed. Since windows have to be open I dont want something to fly into the car and with my luck right into my eye.

fire is another thing but I will probably have some other issues if that happens

It's 80 and sunny this weekend and low humidity. Both local tracks have events. But this is one of 2 weekends a year my wife goes out with girlfriends for the weekend. And kids can't watch themselves at the track ? do you think they could ride along? They both have 5 points harnesses ?

Hopefully I can find a good event in November that fits in the schedule ?
