I'll get some pics up. Some of the issues will be hard to capture because the debris is so small.

PPF is a far more subjective topic than it probably should be.

There should be a certain amount of tolerance for imperfections. I think my shop did a stellar job, but there are a couple spots where it's lifting a bit a year later. I know if I brought it back to them they'd fix it, but it doesn't bother me enough to make the trip. Overall, the car looks fantastic and you can't tell it has film on it unless you know where to look and are no more than 2 feet away. Acceptable for my standards.

In your case, it does seem like the shop that did your car is lacking the same attention to detail and quality assurance most reputable shops should have. Hopefully that was at least reflected in the price you paid. PPF cost can vary pretty significantly, but I'm thinking that a quality job would run at least at or near the ~$2k range for hood, fenders, bumper. If you paid significantly less than that, I think you should just accept the results. If that's what you paid, do what you can to have them redo it.

But finally, what's all this about "peeling paint off"? I know there's a process to remove the film and an incompetent shop could surely screw that up bad enough, but who has actual evidence that the paint is in fact damaged when PPF is removed under most "normal" circumstances?

Very rare to have anything under it. I have one small spec on the whole car (as example)which is on the black bottom trim and can’t really see. Its all about how clean and clear the environment is where they put it on. A reputable shop would replace or reset at a minimum if you are unhappy.

Ya I had 5 ppf done before with a good shop and they were all perfect. I recommend to take it to a reputable ppf installer before it snowballs. There is no way they can do a good job all of a sudden, I wouldn’t waste time with it. This isn’t an easy job, I would never attempt this myself that’s for sure.

I will see what the GM says. I paid $3k for the whole job, but that included full front, side skirts, pillars, piano black on rear bumper and matte black vinyl. I'm not saying every piece is bad, but some are just not acceptable, regardless of how anal I am. I know they really put effort into making is as perfect as possible. What I didn't know before I got it done is they do not have a clean room yet. That is in the works. So, do I live with it now and demand they redo it once the room in finished? Or, do I call it a day and get some of my money back?

My shop included a follow up visit 2 months after initial installation to fix any bubbles and gave my car a full detailing interior and exterior. They also said if I notice anything in the future, bring it in asap so they can address it before it gets worse. I have a few tiny imperfections that I'm willing to live with, but for what you paid they should at least take a 2nd look at it. I think most shops understand that it's not always perfect at first.

I do need to go back for review. However, without a clean environment, I think the larger areas are still going to end up with dust.

It's gonna be more difficult getting your cash out of that business vs letting them fix it - that's a consideration.

I don't know if I trust that place to do a good job fixing it now though.

I don't disagree, but I really don't want to bring it back and have the same issue. Might be more cost-effective for them to just give me some money back instead of spending hours redoing it, plus the cost of materials.

for sure but I don't think they are going to just give you the money back. Probably only a few panels need to be re-done and material is not that expensive (at least cheaper than just giving you all your money back).

Personally id give them a chance to fix it unless its really really bad (its hard to know how bad from what you are saying, a few specs of dust ok, bad cuts and any cuts in paint or big bubbles or stretches I would probably not let them fix).

PPF is a tough one, I love that its nice and protects, don't have to worry about driving on track or highway for the most part, I do love that but finding a good shop and even good shops can make mistakes and then waste time going back to leave car there or even just loose sleep over this crap, and now with the whole paint might come out, its another annoying thing to deal with.

3k usd is not cheap, I thought when you said friend did it, it was pretty much free + material.
I paid 3k cad for same as yours minus rear black bumper.
That sucks to hear, hope the redo is a bit better at least you can get a few years out of it and maybe redo it once it starts looking worse.

I spoke with the GM, he apologized. He did try to tell me it's impossible to get it perfect, but understood where I was coming from. He said he has spoken with high-end shops and they told him it's very difficult to get it absolutely perfect. I'm fine with speck, but not 10+. He offered a few options.

1) Wait until the end of the year when their "clean" environment was ready
2) Redo what needs to be done on a Saturday when there are less people in and out of the space.
3) Refund my money

I chose 2. I really want them to make it right. Some of the panels are done well. The front bumper is the worst. There are some spots on one of the headlights, and I found some on a side skirt. I will develop a list and go from there. The money isn't the issue. I just want it done right.
