No worries 😆 I do understand where you're coming from... A lot of design choices with this platform rub me the wrong way. (For example... why don't we get a baffled oil pan? Why don't we have multiport injection? Why does this motor route exhaust out the front?)

Sadly, it's not the fabled K20 😭 You could argue it's more similar to an EA888 than to an older K series.

Older K series are valued for their high flow cylinder head. K20C1 doesn't have a high flow head. It ditches vtec on the intake cam (relying on the turbo instead), and this limits how aggressive a cam you can run, as the intake cam is always running the "aggressive" lobe. It also uses tumble ports (which cut down on flow) to help with fuel atomization via direct injection (technically this is an improvement, but it does mean you won't get the top end power older K engines were famous for), and -- like the EA888 -- it uses an integrated exhaust manifold, which limits flow.

My anecdotal experience is that, in stock form (meaning stock tune), I prefer the K20C1 to the EA888 (experienced in Tiguan, GTI). The K20C1 seems to be more rev happy, and I prefer the power curve. I am not sure how the intricacies of the head designs compare, so I won't make any claims re: potential. It does also seem that EA888s have more issues with carbon buildup and valve stem / turbo seals. That's all anecdotal (and I haven't experienced a tuned EA888).

Having said that, if you are tuning, I am with you that the forged rods are an advantage for the EA888. I think, depending on what your goals are, etc., the EA888 can make more sense for chasing power / torque in a low investment build. If you are running a bigger turbo, though, those torque concerns aren't as relevant (because of the resulting torque curves), and I would think that, once you go beyond that (and start building out the bottom end, porting the head, installing big cams, etc.), there probably aren't many distinct advantages between one motor or the other.

I will say, as someone who has been frustrated with how Honda abandoned many of the "advantages" of the older K engines, some of these design elements probably aren't worth sweating over. The reality is, execution / implementation matters more than specific design choices (for lack of a better term). A good example of this would be how well implemented FWD is on this platform. In a vacuum FWD sounds terrible. Here? It's actually pretty good. You can make pretty decent power on these motors with minimal investment, even if they don't check the "forged rods", "high flow head", "aggressive cam" boxes. Admittedly, I struggle to understand the value of high HP FWD builds, but you can flirt with 400 whp with a tune, and 500+ if you add fuel / turbo.

If you are "losing sleep" over this, check out some dyno graphs of a tuned stock turbo vs. a Kuro+ or (better yet) an RV6 R660. You'll see that the torque curves are completely different, and this might put your mind at ease re: future potential without having to build out the motor.

the best ea888 head would be on the golf r. Still not as good as the k20c1’s tho. The valve build up is terrible on the older ones but on the 3rd and 4th gen it’s solved a good bit. Not ideal tho but better than expected at least.

I’m with you. In stock form I’d want a k20c1 too. In heavily modded form, you’d be crazy not to pick that last iron block 4 cylinder left in the world (ea888).

i dyno’d my fake ass type r today. Made like 311/340 I think? I added pics and stuff in the what did U do today thread

I did see the post, i personally didn't see anything wrong (not recommending his own specific tune) I did see the other two main tuners getting mad at him tho. Granted for all i know, he could've edited his comment to make himself look better.

Reason i would want to go with him is just for an unlock, my fl5 is my daily, and i would be down on my car for a minimum of 3 days. That's why his service seems pretty good to me.

TLDR plz? I don’t have social networking. If my friends want to know what I’m eating. And they do almost 2-3 times a week. So annoying. They just ask via text and I send em a pic. Without fb I can’t see the convo. If U can add some detail I’d appreciate U man

Hey folks, friend of mine summoned me here to get it straight and answer the questions if you have any.

First, we are way past guinea pigs stage, as of now you can find at least 6-7 feedbacks around fb groups from real customers and they seem to be happy about level and conveniency of my serivce. And more to land soon. Some Canucks shipped me their ECUs as they got a hard time sending it to states with all new import rules and hardships so besides my 10+ years of peeping ECU backdoor holes experience i had plenty pigs to hone and master this one.

Second, to address mr @getRIGHT concern, i dont understand how you can recommend or not recommend me when you never ever used any of my services or even talked to me and trying to judge me for executing first amendmend right ? Guy asked for unlock publicly and i offered him service publicly, i didnt DM him like a rat behind the backs offering it for half price, i didnt tell him hey go with my tune bro the rest is trash etc, that would be incorrect and unethical but to address the rest of it is just fine . If im not mistaken we have democracy and free market out there, right to work, right to compete etc. I respect their legacy and community service, had around 0 plans to compete with those 2 ( but they made me rethink that with their aggressive and bs comments ) and i offered unique service they dont have so I see no problem here and you shouldnt too. What i dont really like is that guy bullshitting people with those clones like bring it for warranty yada yada when in reality it takes 2 min for honda to fig that out if they really want to. That bs has to be exposed and cleared out. Il lsecond your opinion to get that Jester guy for the tune service as he is def more experienced with the platform and for the rest of the tricks im as good and even better.

I have all the technical skills and abilities to pull their tunes, repack and sell under any brand i want or just post em for everyone to grab for free but i wont be doing that. If they dont attack me i wont be hurting their nice lil biz. Maybe one day i will come up with basic reflashes for bolt ons straight to the ECU no strings attached but im still too busy with life and TSXes all around the world and other models.
So for now ill be offering easy convenient unlocks and the rest is up to you guys, u can buy flashpro from me, get it used for cheaper, buy from phearable or whatever and combine with their tunes etc. I respect freedom of choice, i wont fight to get all the money in the world for myself only and my #1 take and skin in the game is for my hondafam to be happy. I cant take money over the rainbow but Im going a long way for you folks to remember me doing good stuff, making you smile.

Their unlock services is not their IP while their good tunes are so i feel free and offer to do better for community while respecting and bypassing their IP department. Sure some1 always gna get get mad at competition but its the way our life is, i did better, i got my share of sunlight and im doing it correctly without rattling their cages much. Their unlock services is not their IP while their good tunes are so i feel free and offer to do better for community while respecting and bypassing their IP department. Hope you are catching my drift.
