Not sure where you scooped that up info....several members here are pushing near 600WHP on the stock rods. Not saying do that long term, but these stock motors are pretty stout
Oh gotcha. Read that here but it was a few years old. Also heard it from Luke Wilson’s interview. Also from 2019. Maybe 2020? Can’t recall.

was dude correct when he said the rods weren’t forged? For some reason I thought the k20c1 would be a little more impressive than the ea888 gen 3 and 4

Thnx for your reply btw

The question is essentially did upgrading the power take away from the driving experience. Is it more fun to drive this car more at the limit when that limit was lower or is it still hella fun with more power.
I know what you're asking, to be honest, you're gonna find that there's not many owners who actually have upgraded the turbo and talk about it much on here. most threads about this are sort of speculative imo. I don't know why. You'll see the builds, but then the reviews of how it handles with the power added are scanty, i think bc theyre too busy having fun rather than writing details about it.

From what i gathered the answer depends on what you're using the car for and where you're really putting the throttle down hard, on freeway straights? or tight canyon turns?
But then either way the answer is still yes, it is very fun, possibly more fun, but the cost starts getting hefty quickly bc if you want it to be just as balanced at 490 whp as stock then youre gonna have to have a lot of supporting mods beyond just the turbo and fueling. What exactly that is im not sure, but I used to bother TSP a fair bit about this and they have a build documented about what they did with their suspension bits, and said it handled just fine, even with their large increase in whp due to their supporting mods.

Enough power to outrun a tesla 3 would be nice, as sometimes they will attack, and a stock type R does have trouble getting in front of a tesla until youre above 90 mph

It depends when / where you're calling for the torque. Early on, people were attempting to make big power on the stock turbo. Due to its small size, this also means making significant torque demands at low RPM, which puts a lot of stress on the connecting rods. A larger turbo won't make peak torque until higher in the power band, where the load on the rods is less significant.

Oooooh. So tuners are basically baking in a bit of artificial lag. So to speak

that’s super smart.

im old enough to remember U didn’t want more than 350wtq on an LSJ if you were keeping the supercharger. But if you turbo charged, that limitation changed to 450wtq depending on the spool characteristics of the turbo you chose.

And I know one can make a casted rod that can take x amount of tq. And one can forge a rod that’ll take that same amount too. The difference would be one rod being much lighter than the other. Usually

thanks for answering. I appreciate U

it's not really lag boost wise, just they are altering the ignition timing to be less aggressive compared to how hard it could come on, to smooth out the torque curve so it doesnt ramp up real fast down low
