Type R Spring Track Day - May 24-25, 2025 VIR

I got a buddy who set up his own private track day at VIR last month. It's $20k all in for a single day rental.

It's a pretty awesome experience -- some friends organized one back in May 2020 -- was our first time on track post immediate COVID lock down -- super fun. Like 30ish of us, and open track all day.

Downside is, it's going to have to be a (Mon-Thurs), which makes it harder to get the numbers.

I'm not sure if we have a set count. Did they give any indication of the number needed for a discount? 10? 40? ?

They can't give us our very own session because of the potential difference in experience across the board (I asked), but they did mention a group discount, and I believe the starting number on that is 10.

There were only 181 drivers there this weekend, which was a record for them, but felt almost empty in comparison to NASA. They run a tight ship, are strict about their schedule, and are excellent communicators.

They do have parade laps each day, so that would likely be the only time that everyone could be out on track together.

If any of you have instructing experience then you are not restricted to any specific group. I was able to run in Black, Blue, Purple, and Yellow this past weekend, which was great!

For what it's worth, the actual track cost is likely the lower portion of my weekend costs. A discount is nice, but I don't really care that much. I'll still be there assuming nothing major changes.

Also thanks for asking on the number needed. I think 10 is very likely, given a long weekend, and we can throw out info for DE5 and FK8 guys too.

They are the least expensive of any group that I run with at VIR. Early bird sign up is usually only $550 for the weekend.

They run 5 different run groups, and the sessions are 25 minutes long, so they aren't very crowded when you divide them up.

I’m pretty sure I’m in since my wife’s friend wedding date is now set and doesn’t conflict with this event.

I will need to start looking into lodging.

Lodging at VIR opens 2nd week of Jan they told me. I may go that route not sure yet ?
