The EA888 in my wife’s GTI doesn’t sound half bad. Dare I say, better than the K20C1, in fact. Sadly, I’m resigned to the fact that the halcyon days of 8,000+ rpm all-motor VTEC engines is over.

same in my gti, sport does sound like a normally aspirated induction noise but in normal I can barely hear it and if you set the sound to comfort its at 30% volume and basically silent.

downpipe/stock exhaust with resonator delete... not my car but sounds similar, bit less rasp due to cat.

I think you should really give a catted downpipe and resonator delete a try before a expensive exhaust. It really opens up the exhaust with out being obnoxious and actually gains power.
Could be, but I mainly want a catback/muffler for its looks and a slight improvement in sound. I don’t really care about power gains. Love everything about the new Type R, other than the triple outlet. Spoon’s muffler/tip combo just looks sooo good.

I’m normally an induction kinda guy lol. I never got into performance exhausts because they all sounded terrible on the e46 M3. So I tackled what I knew was fixable: intake noise. Specifically, I installed the CSL airbox, which produced what I can only describe as the best induction noise of any mass produced car I ever heard.

The big thing for me is how it sounds inside the car while I'm driving it; it's a good part of my enjoyment of a sports car. Besides the blow-off, which of course sounds good, the exhaust note throughout the cabin in the fk8 feels off for the kind of drive you're having...like something always feels missing.

HKS legamax for the FK8 is very quiet and only gets loudish at higher RPM. And by Loudish I mean like 5DB louder than stock lol.
Obviously not the same car, but I have an HKS Legal in my ZZW30 and it sounds pretty great. Only gets loud when you step on it, but otherwise a very warm sound.

One thing is for sure fl5 has more refined chassis with better nvh to fk8 so you wont hear much other than the pumped in noise.

I have hks legamax for my fk8..
It is definitely more than 5db over stock.
I do have aFe catted dp and fp and car is tuned though.

I had ARK, j's racing before hks.. both are super aggressive and stupid loud.
Got too much neigbour complains and cop attention so changed to HKS.

I would say it is true for fk8 stock exhaust.
The car sounds great inside with proper aftermarket exhaust. I have hks currently and it has no drone, deep and loud enough exhaust note.

I have a valved catback exhaust with a Vibrant resonator* on my current DD V6 Accord. And the only reason why I opted for the higher priced valved option was to match the exhaust note with my mood at the moment. I keep it closed on highways (hate that drone) and most city driving, but I let it rip when I'm driving spirited and I think that's the best way to go.

You have an aftermarket down pipe and front pipe lol of course it’s going to be stupid loud!
