F1 drivers aren't wearing SA2020 helmets and use the open wheel spec that's designed for impacts that open wheel car drivers get

This isn't like a motorcycle helmet where lightness really matters. Most hpde drivers are wearing the helmet for 20-30 minute stints.

As mentioned above, SA2020 is the same from $200 helmet to $2000+
lightness does matter though, it may not be as important but even comparing a carbon fiber vs non carbon fiber at the store it made it a no brainer for me to choose the lighter helmet.

I agree and so does my neck! I do recommend a neck collar too, you will all thank me later.

One thing to note too is that just because both helmets pass regulation it doesnt mean both helmets are the same level of safety. The regulation is the minimum right? Its either pass or fail. Carbon fiber being a stronger material than fiber glass could mean that its a stronger helmet.

Stronger is not really what you want - you need your helmet to absorb the impact. Once you drive a race car with all the safety features, every time you go back to your type R you'll feel vulnerable. It doesn't feel right discussing the different safety qualities of different SA2020 compliant helmets all the while not using a HANS device and a multi point harness.

sure i agree with that but what im saying is, unless we’re actually testing each helmet. We wont know and basing it off just the regulations would be a poor way to judge
