Hey guys,

Like the title says - I hate seeing the posts about Type Rs getting stolen by losers with signal boosters or OBD hacks. In my neighborhood there seems to be an increasing amount of auto thefts. Unfortunately, I do not live in a house with a secure garage, and have to park on the street, so I had to come up with a few ways to give me some peace of mind. I can't guarantee that all of these are going to stop them but it may slow them down or cause frustration.

Here are a few inexpensive products that I have installed or will be installing in the near future. I am no security expert but did some research and went overkill on buying security products. There are much better products on the market with higher levels of sophistication but some require you tapping into the factory wiring. All of these products are reversible and will not effect your warranty.

1. Faraday pouch - This basically blocks the RFID signal from your keys. Always keep your key and spare key in one of these as theifs have the ability to boost the signal of the key in your house and start the vehicle up! https://www.amazon.com/Upgraded-Faraday-TICONN-Premium-Protector/dp/B07MDF5TX9?th=1

2. Air tags - great little tool that updates location periodically. My buddy had his Accord stolen but was able to get it back within hours because he had a few air tags stashed in his car. https://www.amazon.com/Apple-MX542L...qid=1731089207&sprefix=air+tags,aps,99&sr=8-3

3. Steering wheel Club - Not a top of the line theft deterrent but its super easy to install when you park the car - https://www.amazon.com/CARTMAN-Heav...1&sr=1-1-9f062ed5-8905-4cb9-ad7c-6ce62808241a

4. Kill switch - I ordered this kill switch that turns on and off the fuel pump relay. I will be routing it from the engine bay fuse box and into the cabin through the grommet of the hood release cable. (select type 2 for Hondas) - https://41twentytwo.com/product/vehicle-kill-switch/

5. Dummy OBD port - This one is cool because it will still power up whatever device the thief is using but also has a secondary alarm and a way to reroute the real OBD socket - https://www.ebay.com/itm/3247490964...lp:2332490&itmmeta=01JC6FX4Z73FC9P4P5WKJJJFAH

Hope this helps!

Honda link also allows you to track the car.

Thanks for this. As someone who has had the sad experience of having my car broken into this is hugely helpful. I was wondering how they did it but a booster makes sense to me. Luckily I'm told having a manual is a solid theft deterrent these days.

Buy one of those track focused removable steering wheels and remove steering wheel every time you leave the car.

It would be annoying, but thieves can't steal cars they can't steer.

Keeping the car in a garage is going to trump everything
Home invasions are a thing unfortunately. There's been a few up incidents of thieves breaking into houses and getting the owners to give them the cars stored in their garage. Extreme circumstance for sure, but it does happen.

I live in a part of the country with castle law and specifically a neighborhood where a majority are Veterans. A home invasion would be considered very unwise and doesn't happen ?

Another FL5 stolen in the NY/NJ Area...seems things are ramping up. We just can't be a Hyundai though. Not a good look.

Can't believe I may have to get a club...i though I was done with that in the 90s

According to Car and Driver this one couldn't be broken easily. Purchased it, because at least it's worth a try
