So surprise surprise, the automatic upcharge for Honda's version of ceramic coating is garbage. I washed my car yesterday evening. Spotless. Drove to work this morning. Drove home this afternoon and saw that I had some bird poop on my wing. Got a microfiber cloth with some car soap and water and took it off and dried it. It seems to have "burned" into the wing a bit! Really Honda? At max this bird poop was on there for 8hrs. First half of the day was cloudy, and second half was sunny, 79 degrees.

I'm not versed on the ceramic coating the dealership sold you but it's not uncommon for bird poop to etch a ceramic coating under the right conditions. You'll need to examine the paint to determine if it etched the clearcoat as well.

Just weird that bird poop never did this to my FK7 black wing? I'd wipe it off next couple of days and that was that. Now, in one day it's etched in on my FL5? That's crazy.

Not sure how long you've had your FL5, but there's typically some warranty with dealership-installed "ceramic". I'd take it to the dealership and have them take a look.

On one hand, great that it happened to the wing, which is ~$900 to replace. But you now have good reason to raise concerns over the rest of the car and how their "ceramic" might react to future turds.

The wing is a bird bench.

Agree with Runnin, gotta take that to the dealer. You could get lucky and the damage is only done to the "ceramic coat" but my guess is that the coating was some spray-on crap (if anything) and offered no protection. It is more likely a defect with the finish on the wing.

I had a similar issue with a different car last year, where only the hood would suffer instant damage from bird poop. All other paint unaffected. I was getting ready to take a fight to the dealer to have them repaint it but it got replaced all together by insurance after hail damage. The paint that the body shop applied was top notch and never had an issue with it after.

What do you think ceramic coating is? Just asking ? Unfortunately no ceramic coating will prevent that from happening....depending how long it sat before you got to it....What are the birds eating in your neck of the woods?....man batteries??? Lol

Yes for sure going to take it to dealership to have them look at it since I've barely had it a month. We'll see what they say.

As others have said, take it back. You paid for it so make them stand behind it. I paid for one that was already added and shortly after noticed the tape residue from PDI was still on the paint. It was obvious nothing was ever applied. Sent my salesman pics and after I had a conversation with the sales manager they refunded me. I say all that to say you have to make them stand behind the BS they sell. But to be fair, I don't think there are many ceramics that will stand up to bird poop for longer than a couple of hours especially in the sun.

A month!? Whatever product they put on it is still relatively new--hopefully, they won't even bother putting up a fight.

Go in reasonable, seeking repair or replacement of the wing. If they want to give you a hard time, push for repair or replacement of the wing + a reapplication of the "ceramic" they had applied (not because it's good for anything, but because it's a nuisance for them to do it and there are associated costs).

Taking it back to the dealership typically only serves you well if the dealership sold you Permaplate or something similar. Permaplate and others like it have warranty coverage and claims service. The OP likely got the equivalent of this and was charged a premium. Doubtful they will do anything, but I'm in to find out.

I too got the Permaplate warranty pkg when I bought my fk8.
Sure enough one afternoon while parked under a tree to go watch a movie with my nefew, came back to car to find bird droppings on hood. Thank God I also had invested in a ceramic coating from a detail shop. I carefully cleaned the spots on hood and after making the claim with Permaplate, their technician came out and was able to polish them without it going through the clear coat.
since then, I had the whole car pff’d with Expel ultimate and then graphene coated. one day

While the car was parked out in nearby neighborhood, I was unfortunately parked under near trees but O covered the car with my oem outdoor fk8 cover. I returned to the car with an hour and that cover saved the car from some bird droppings again. I only had to wash the car cover.

I can’t recommend enough to protect our honda / Acura vehicles enough since the paint has been known to be not thick enough.
