Does anyone know the purpose of the air duct on the bottom of the OEM undertray? (Circled in red)

Looking to get an aftermarket cooling plate but curious about the purpose of the air duct and if a different plate would potentially mess with the airflow

I don't know about anyone else, but I've usually used that part as a handle of sorts when taking off the shield for maintenance. 😆

I think I saw something that said airflow from that duct helps cool the steering gearbox. I can't find anything at the moment, so maybe I'm wrong, but it looks like it could help with that. Will have to take a look up in there next oil change to see if that's plausible.

I've read the same thing on a Facebook post too. I'll be doing an oil change soon, will also take a look and report any observations

I bought the WOT cooling plate and temperatures appear lower overall, enough to not worry about localized inlets on the OEM plate.

Unlike the factory plate, the WOT supplied fasteners are high quality with no hint of backing off. My son's FK8 is always missing at least one fastener at oil changes and I've seen other 2022+ Civics dangling cooling plates going down the road.

Same I have the WOT cooling plate and I think it's great aside from the two rivnuts at the front. Both sheared off eventually on mine, but it was easy enough to replace them with higher quality ones. Haven't seen anyone else mention it so maybe I got unlucky but they looked like poor quality from day one, just those two specifically.

Same here! I'm extremely happy with the WOT cooling plate and it's quality build and fasteners. Here in California, I've noticed my temps drop anywhere from 10-20 degrees over the stock plate. Great upgrade IMO

maybe it helps cool the transmission or just helps keep the exhaust cooler so it doesn't catch anything on fire

I have the WOT. To me its worth for the easy of removal alone, I just did my first change with it and was a breeze (no pun intended) compared to the oem one.
