Hey All!

Im thinking about future mods and 500+ hp and wondering if anyone knows what can be done to replace internal parts with racing upgrades.

Thinking pistons, rings, rods etc. Lets get some gear head discussion going. I want 9k turbo charged rpms!

Honestly you don't really need to do all of that for over +500WHP. You can get by with FBO and, supporting mods, upgraded clutch, and a RV6 turbo before you need to mess with the block.

Theres really multiple ways to get what you want. Ultimately it just depends on your budget and what your plans are.

Personally, the only thing I'd want to do is raise the redline which means probably modifying the cams and the connecting rods.

There is a S2000R retro build that a shop has done with the S2000 and honestly it looks really good. The engine is disappointing though because its just a stock K20C1, I wish that they'd do work to it and try to go for modern F20 build, where it has the power of the K20C1 but also retain the high redline. I'd want to do something like that, wouldn't want a super big turbo and get midrange torque with a short powerband. I'd want something small and for lowrange torque and a broad powerband to keep it NA feeling.

Right on with you in terms of na feel. I just want options to build the top and bottom- call it my insurance policy for the extra hp. Tell me more on the budget. What can $10k and $20k get me?

Im not very familiar with the costs of parts and notable tuning companies when it comes to these cars because I am new to Hondas and civics in general.

This was an interesting read about raising the RPMs with the FK8, should be 100% comparable since the only difference with the FL5 K20C1 is that it the turbo is just smaller.

If you are serious you probably should checkout 4 Pistons

Wow, Ill take a look see thanks. Id rather build the engine instead of paying a premium on a mod warranty.

Interesting. What's your objective? Are you looking to build a full on track car for competition purposes?
No, just tooling around with a balls out engine that wont blow with 500hp and a 9k redline. SWEET MARIA!!!

From how I read it, you supply the engine. What did they tell you with regards to redline?
You can do it either way but yeah Id look to have them pull the engine and build it out. I did not get into detail on the redline but stock can handle something like 7,600 or something. With the build out Id expect at least 8k maybe 9k.

Have you redlined the factory engine yet? If I remember correctly you were concerned and wanting to go 2000-3000 miles before doing that and now you want a built engine?!

While the allure of a high redline sounds great in theory these engines tend to be far less reliable than something Honda has mass produced and done extensive calibration testing on. Doesn't really seem worth it to me when the stock engine is so capable with minimal mods.

You're going to be traction limited on this car before getting anywhere close to 800hp. If this is strictly a drag racing car and you'll be on slicks then by all means. You'll probably break a bunch of other stuff in the process though.

I did the normal 600 miles on mine before going 5k and 1,000 before higher. Not looking for 800hp, maybe 500 and stock is hit and miss at that. A fully built engine with forged components will have much much greater longevity and reliability at higher hp. Its not a question of whether I need it. I love the idea of having a reliable monster under the hood. FWD will always be traction limited. I guess ill need even wider, gummier tires ?.

Just about everything is factory rated for 500 hp so no true need to start down the messing with internals path. Once you start to open things up, you increase the possibility for a whole mess of things to happen.

You can achieve 500 hp with full bolt ons, fuel system, turbo, and a tune but you have to keep in mind you can have all the power in the world but if you can't get it to hook it serves no purpose.

That stage 3 is meant for track use, not daily driving. I'm betting it's gonna run like ass around town. Stage 1 sounds like what you want.
