No need to pay markups. Have bought two new cars recently no markup. Even got one severely reduced. Tough times are coming and luxury items are getting cut out very quick. Honda will make as many as people will buy(more than previous Gen) so no need to freak out. Used cars may be super expensive at the moment but things will normalize real soon. It also helps to have a desirable trade in like my 2021 Supra since the dealer can get a great margin on that vehicle too.
Good luck...

Many dealers around me charge 5K on an LX Civic. Want an Si? It is even more. So I'm guessing the pattern would suggest an even higher one on a CTR.

I'm not here to say you can't get a car without one. It is the dealer's choice. Just remember, the dealer can replace you many times over for people who are willing to travel across the country for a car and that is the problem isn't it? The ability to replace you with someone who is more than willing to pay that $.

The average car sale price keeps going up. This basically contradicts everything you are saying. You don't have to believe me though...

Your trade isn't going to offer a dealer a great margin either unless you plan to give it to them. I'm not sure where you source that from. I'd love to know though. I mean don't get me wrong. You could trade in your car for less than what it is worth and someone could pay more than what it is worth but come on... Why would you do that?

Same around me. Dealers wanted about 2.5-5k for a Brand New Toyota Venza Hybrid for the wife and found a dealer thats no markup and had a new car being shipped within 2 weeks. It's more work but just don't fold and pay markup and they will eventually bend. One shitty dealer has a used 22 si for 36k, another within 45 minutes has a new one at MSRP, it's a weird time. I'm also sure its a lot tougher in super dense markets like Cali, Texas, FL etc. I take a couple hour ride into big snow country in the fall closing in on winter and these places are looking to dump non 4wd vehicles asap. Put the shitty dealers on blast and the market will adjust. Most will still pay it and thats their decision. And as far as a valuable trade in, i already chatted with a couple dealers who shot me "to the top of the list" for the GR corolla and type r because of my trade in. Used supras are going for more than new "MSRP" too and its a rarer vehicle. I still have the factory plastic sheet on my interior aluminum sills and my headunit. Id be willing to work a little bit on a trade in Because in my state i have sales tax and can avoid all sales tax since my trade in will be higher than the new vehicle as well. If i can Sell the car for 55-56 private, but they give me ~53 trade in and honor MSRP on the CTR they'll be able to sell my Supra for 60k+ meaning potentially like 7-8k in profit as compared to almost nothing on a new car plus whatever markup they are trying to get. if it meant I had to pay like 1,500 in "markup" and i was getting a fair deal on the trade in(match carvana at 54.5) and getting the color i wanted, i would be okay with that. But 5k and i'm just not getting rid of my inline 6 monster unless they are giving me a hell of a trade in. I can wait until next year when they are everywhere. I know in the Supra world too, theres a lot of MSRP dealers that wont sell to out of state customers so who knows if that happens with Honda too. This is a mass production vehicle that will be made for years to come. The problem is everyone acting like they are going to "run out" of cars as people are drowning in the cost of living and rising interest rates. The main thing is be patient. Everyone did the same 5 years ago when the FK8 came out and i literally had a handful of dealers willing to play ball at msrp when some were paying crazy markups.

I hope that everyone interested in a new Type R will take some advice, don’t pay a markup. If everyone refuses to pay the markup then there wont be one. No one needs any car so badly that they should pay extra for it.
I was lucky and got the first Type R in Tucson at MSRP. Had a markup been required I would have passed.

Interesting times we live in...where buying a new car at MSRP...and calling it lucky. At the end of the day, if you want a Type R, then markup's will be part of the deal. Just my .02

I still remember the good ol days, back in 2019 and before, when everyone would laugh at paying MSRP.

Lol I remember getting a minimum of cost + 5% as the cost of the vehicle. What a time we live in now! Wonder if it will ever go back to before.
