Highly considering a FL5. Been driving all sorts of high/low horsepower old shit for decades, newest car I own is 04 s2000. No vsa, only abs/eps and the nut behind the wheel. Don't need all the assist/gimmicks

- I have read somewhere a while back stating that defeating the traction control will allow the brake pads to exponentially increase their longevity(especially the rear that are notorious for extreme wear). Also wonder if this thing stays off once deactivated.
- The fake exhaust noise can be permanently removed and real exhaut valve still functions on/off as intended.
- Is that hondalink sell your data/hike up insurance rates etc. like the whole GM debacle?

Can anyone confirm these.

Aside from those 3 points it looks like individual mode is what I'll be running with for the most part. Will the car start everytime with exactly how I want it set up?

Throwing this out there: rhd converted civic cx b16a2 CA BAR legal swap for sale/trade for a white FL5. PM for details if interested.

I think what you're looking for your first question is Pedal Dance. It is not permanent though, normal modes resume if you click on TC button or restart the car. Theres no way (that I know of) that makes it permanent. Definitely wont be able to capture it individual setting.

For your second question - yes fake exhaust noise module has nothing to do with the valves. You can permanently open the valve and keep it that way though if thats what you want. Its a fuse trick.

I see, I'll check that link out. In the mean time is that hondalink sell your data/hike up insurance rates etc. like the whole GM debacle?

Might just stick with my dinosaur cars if true.

Honda has said that they won't, but who knows. If you are concerned, it's easy to remove the TCU so that no one can remotely connect to your car to pull data.

If you're specifically concerned about this, the Integra Type S completely lacks the "Telematics Control Unit" or "TCU" module that phones home via cellular/LTE. Food for thought.

I also believe that the module can be unplugged and even fully removed in the CTR. It's under the center dash speaker behind the infotainment screen, if memory serves.

Is it possible to post how or a link? I’ve read about TCU module removal but not sure how to electronically disable.

TIA

You can turn most of the safety stuff and fake sound off and it stays off in individual mode. On the 1 or 2 remaining systems, you can change the threshold to the point where they rarely do anything. The dealer won't do this for you, but it's easy enough through the menus.

I recently removed my TCU. It's right in front of the touch screen. The dash panel lifts straight up rather easily using plastic pry levers. Only takes a few minutes, including tying up and padding the loose connectors. Don't drop the TCU bolts though.

The CTR traction control (when on) still allows a bunch of wheel spin on dry pavement. I haven't noticed the throttle cutting like my '04TL 6MT or FR-S, but then I'm not purposely smoking the tires either.

We had a 2004 S2000, so I know what you are concerned about. The 2006-2009 S2000's weren't the same.

New 2025 inventory in my area is scarce per Honda's website. However, I see a fair number of used FL5's at reasonable prices on Cars.com (for example).
