Canadian dealer asked what colour Type R I want

Well I just got gut punched by my Honda/dealer:

I requested my refund back from the dealer close by after I got the good news from this dealer.

"Honda Canada has brought to our attention that you have two orders placed for the 2023 Honda Civic Type R, one with us and another at a Lower Mainland store. Honda is monitoring these orders very closely and doesn't want a local client missing out on an order when a deposit might be blocking them.

We will be refunding your deposit and allowing one of our local clients to move forward and order a Type R. The deposit you placed at the other Lower Mainland store will be be honoured at this time.

At your convenience, please contact our Sales Manager, (after 11am today) to refund your deposit on your Mastercard."

This suxs.

did you just put a deposit with both dealers or did they submit your order to Honda Canada and charged the additional deposit (most of us saw 500) with honda canada.. and they are saying they will honor one of the orders the one local to you? so you are getting one

yeah it is i didn't really expect much, but the rep was very nice courteous and sounded like he genuinely wanted to help, he understands the enthusiast culture, unlike some other rude reps that ignore it come out with outrageous claims ... and as I am writing this precision Honda just called me and confirmed the#1 person just picked up their cw fl5 and they are only getting 3 in total so 1 per year, so he was just calling the rest of list to give the bad news and issue refund...btw this dealer never sent my order to Honda just a deposit with their dealer internally...i don't understand local dealer selling, what if someone relocated for a job for 6 months but they don't update their DL since it's not their primary residence

1. Mid Apr, i placed a $500 deposit down at Dealer #1 (WW)
2. End of Apr. I placed a $1000 deposit down at Dealer #2 on Van. Island
3. I've been in contact with Dealer 2 over the past few months just emails asking for updates.
4. Oct. 30, I received an email from Dealer #2 confirming they put an order in with Honda Canada
5. Oct. 31, my sales rep confirmed the email from them is correct and order has been placed with Honda
6. Nov 1, I call Dealer #1 to get my $500 deposit back b/c dealer 2 confirmed the order through Honda; Dealer #1 never gave me any updates or information over the last 6 months. Another member here can confirm something similar with Dealer #1.
7. I received email from dealer #2 this morning (Nov 9) stating that Honda saw 2 deposits. I dont know when Honda saw the 2 deposits. Dealer #2 states that Honda will sell to people who are local and that i should go back to dealer #1. I've gotten my refund back from dealer #1 last week.

I've emailed Honda Canada directly and see where this goes. I dont even know if Honda confirmed again that the deposit has been refunded.

Its an uphill battle.

Thanks for clarifying, yeah this is messed up, that's why i feel bill of sale is as close as it can get before getting keys in our hands....i appreciate you telling us about the email from Honda, the one dealer that told me they submitted my order to Honda said i should get an email from Honda but i got nothing, so only their word to go on.... what i find strange is that when you went back to dealer#1 to get your deposit back how come they didn't inform you that they submitted an order to Honda for you...i really feel for you... the best thing to do is to try and reason with them and go straight to the manager

Man that's unfortunate news.

The dealer in Brampton has 6 incoming total, the sales guy was out to lunch telling me he's trying to push me to number 2, when I'm actually 4. I've now only been dealing with the sales manager now and he has given me in writing " The order is for one of our available 2024 Civic Type R’s." in addition to the BOS they gave me stating the same. But he apparently can't tell me colour or anything else, which is whatever I guess as long as I can get one next year.

Fingers crossed some of you other guys can find something available somewhere.

I'm curious regarding the whole "two deposits" thing. I was talking to a guy on FB and he mentioned he has a Red and a White one incoming and was going to try and trade one for a Grey one and flip the other for extra cash, wonder if he knows that Honda is going to flag one of those or if he has someone else who is "buying" the other one for him. Kindof silly some can't get any and others can get two...

My dealer keeps saying to wait and “he’s got my back” despite not getting enough cars to fill my order…at the moment. Really friendly and knowledgeable dealer but seems weird they would keep my deposit unless the suspect some folks will drop out.. I dunno

Here is the response from my BC Dealer. No response after that lol. I’ll keep both my Deposit in AB (No.2 with DP and BOS) and BC (No.6 with just DP). I’m done dealing with this type of sales who doesn’t care about their costumer. I’m done guys I’ll just let fate decide.

Looks like lots of people will not end up getting one unfortunately, even being on the waitlist. Out of curiosity, how much would you guys on top of MSRP would you guys pay for an allocation? 5K? 10K? 15K? I've seen markups of 15K USD in states which is crazy. Given the limited allocations, what do you think the long term value of the car will be if I were to buy at resale value? Cheers !

I wouldn't pay a dime over MSRP, I'm not conforming to the dealer bullshit the states have, that's why I left the car in Nova Scotia with $3.5k of "add ons".

I've seen $25k on US cars for markup.

0 markup, maybe i will buy some accessories but that's it.
it's already higher end of what I can afford as it is and with mark up i would consider other cars.

I wouldn’t say I’m high up any list but for sure, no dealer has outright refunded me yet. I’ve had 2 just ask me if I wanted a refund or just to play it out. There’s a dealer that has no clue what’s going on nor does their management as I guess they don’t get many updates from their GSM and another dealer that has biweekly meetings and doesn’t say shit until I follow up. They’re all playing a shitty limbo game coupled with phone tag and he said she said. It’s a shit show. I’m about done and also just letting it play out until summer and then if I don’t get refunded, I’m gonna pull them all and probably aim for a 24 golf r or maybe an fk8 if prices fall a bit. It’s nice seeing people get their cars finally and super happy for them. Hopefully I get to see some of you on the street lol.

Should I be concerned that my dealer has no known allocation beyond the 1 they are getting come spring? Sounds like most dealers have put in orders for 2024 and beyond. Not sure what they mean by allocation here. Is it even possible a GTA dealer only gets 1 car over the whole run? That would totally suck if true lol

I wouldn't pay a dime over MSRP, I'm not conforming to the dealer bullshit the states have, that's why I left the car in Nova Scotia with $3.5k of "add ons".

I've seen $25k on US cars for markup.

i think alot of ppl would have taken it specially those in the US but even here considering the chance of not getting one i would be signed at 3.5k but tried to push them to give me accessories that i want not random ones, it shouldn't matter to them, they are still making money regardless
