I feel you man. I gave up on this quest last month itself. Get a Golf R instead. That's what I am doing. If you can make do with the user-unfriendly infotainment, its the best all year round practical hot hatch with heated goodies inside.
I've owned VW/AUDIs all my life haha, I wanted to end the ICE era in something a bit more special in a way (to me atleast).

But I'm going the new M2 route as my main backup. I'm kinda over all of this.

I've heard lots of people throw around the idea that it's illegal for Canadian dealers to mark up vehicles without actually giving you accessories of it, but between my calls with AMVIC and Honda Canada it seems like there's no way for the higher bodies to regulate pricing like that for independent dealers. Anyone have insight to this?
What's actually illegal has to do with consumer advertising laws. Not 100% sure for Alberta but QC and ON have consumer laws that state sell price must match advertised sale price. The only way they could legally mark it up is if they advertise it at the marked up price.

Things get muddy for dealers as well since Honda Canada would do its advertising at MSRP making it a bit of a valid case for the consumer to argue it has advertisements at MSRP due to Honda corporate.

Overall its usually not worth the legal hassle for dealerships to actually sell vehicles at a mark up, but it can still technically be done.

Thats a great way to go out with a bang!
Optioning out the M2 with bucket seats and carbon fiber roof would land it somewhere north of 95k, and personally, I cannot shell out that much for an albeit amazing car but can only be driven half of the year. I would eventually get an S2000 just for that analog high revving experience ?

Question:

When I placed my deposit with the dealer, they "entered" me into some sort of system. I assume this is the dealer's ordering system?

There was model, year, trim, etc. They took my drivers license, credit card and address.

That said, I was told I'm not high on the list, closer to 10 than to 1 and I'm not optimistic I'll be getting one anyway. Just wondering what system this is...

Haha the only option I didn't select were the carbon buckets. I didn't like the center sear divide (that's what I'm telling myself anyways) lol. Everything else was mostly selected. Had to cut cost somewhere to keep the wife happy.

I was also looking at the S2K and supra, but Def need rear seats just in case haha.

That could either be the internal or Honda ordering system, they would need to clarify. But at #10 unless people drop off it's not looming good.

I don't know a single dealer getting even close to 10.

Thanks Roid. Yeah, I echo your thoughts. I've decided to just sit back and see what happens. I'll just keep tabs with the dealers I'm working with and see what happens.

Yup, at this point it's all we can. Gotta take my own advice and just leave it and let the cards play out at this point.

Need to stop jumping over hoops to try to figure this out haha.

Yeah. I contacted both AMVIC and Honda Canada and it seems like they can't do anything. As long as a dealer's name isn't associated to the price on Honda.ca, then they can't regulate it being that it's a manufacturer's advertised price. As for Honda Canada they basically told me that they don't like seeing the markups but being that they're independent dealerships they can't force their hand on how to run their business. Might just had to sit back and wait and see if any other dealership I've contacted will throw me a bone.

That's my backup car as well. Did they give you an ETA?

Crazy to hear so many of us in the same position. All I know is my dealer knows 1 car is coming in March and after that they have no idea. GM seemed pretty honest about this but who knows anymore.

When I put initial deposit down they did take my license etc. so hoping its in this stripe system

so I got an email this morning from the dealer where I am #1 today telling me that the car is sold out... thanks for your interest

So i started freaking out, called the sales rep and he said we got your request through honda.ca that you're interested in the car, 'why you calling honda about the car'? I said this was last week before we spoke on the honda.ca website price n build... he said okay i guess we didn't put 2 and 2 together but we're just telling everyone that contact us or if we get system forwarded requests from honda.ca that the car is sold out (meaning to me)

so a sigh of relief then he said, i was actually just putting your order through honda canada... I am assuming he is doing this through this portal a few of us been told about

so he said you will notice a refund of 500 because honda canada wants that deposit with them to order the car... the 1k deposit i put originally is with the dealership

i said it's okay keep the 1k deposit and tack the additional 500 for the honda order...he said yeah we're putting the order through with your name and all that and when we know more i'll contact you
so still no vin and asked him if I can do the bill of sale to make this concrete, he said it's concrete but we will do the bill of sale later:dunno:

and for someone that was asking about what name shows up on the credit card charge
so the 1k deposit with the dealer just shows their name and as for the order with assuming 'the portal' it still shows the dealer's name but with a honda.com at the end so they're similar names but the former sounds like the business name as the dealer registered themselves and the latter sounds more of a prefix to a honda.com, again assuming 'the portal' name which is honda.com

hope this helps, again chances are me being at #2 in this other dealership won't happen but if their #1 backs out i'll be sure to let you guys know or even with the dealer where i am #4 if i hear something or my name comes up i'll be sure to let you guys know but may be well into 2023 if not 2024

Interesting so if we placed a $1k deposit and see a $500 refund its safe to assume that your order has been placed. Gotcha.

Anybody else hear about any assigned VIN's other than the two we already know about? I reached out to my dealer a few hours ago - no response so far...
