Sometimes they don’t like to be completely disconnected from a power source. It can make the ECU freak out and in some cases it might reset some of your custom settings or cause the alarm to go off…things like that. Once, when I had AutoZone replace a battery in my FA5, they hooked up a dummy load to the ECU to prevent that from happening. It seems to be more of a precaution than a necessity. I’ve changed several batteries since then and never needed a dummy load…though I do recall that in our older CRV I had to unlock radio again. This is the first time a Honda I've owned required a reset/recalibrate when disconnecting power. Whenever I disconnect/reconnect power or certain sensors, my 2022 Civic Sport Touring throws error codes en masse. I just connect my OBD2 scanner, hit clear all codes, restart engine, and everything is good again.
