I don't have any personal experiences with this exhaust but I do know that for the 86 platform the Comp RS is considered the loudest and drones when compared to the SP (if they will even make the SP for the FL5).

I got the MXP Comp RS awhile back (I didn’t find Mackin Industries offering any other of their exhaust lines for the FL5), for about $1,150 with free shipping. I weighed the pieces individually for a total of 40.88 lbs.

It arrived with some pretty rough machining marks and scratches, possibly some that happened in shipping as the parts were only separated by a few pieces of bagged foam, with just the mufflers and tips wrapped in plastic and the hardware/gaskets taped to the sides of the box.

I went to work with a rotary tool and varying abrasive grits, although didn’t want to grind so much metal to fully get out the deep tooling marks and scratches, so gave it this flame-style finish partly inspired by guitar tops. The pipe without muffler became more subtle with more sanding/polishing after etching the flames, I left the midpipe with muffler more pronounced.

I finally got it installed behind my PRL frontpipe which I had put on in December. From inside, the tone, volume and how it responds to throttle is great, with the windows up or down. Before and with the PRL frontpipe, the stock exhaust was still masked by the bass and vibes from the PRL RMM, which I enjoy. But now there is noticeable sound coming from the rear of the car. It maintains a good sound when you fully open it up, and it doesn’t drone when cruising in an overwhelming boomy way, so I’m quite satisfied. Here’s how it turned out.

These stationary vids without load don’t really do it justice, but for what it’s worth, and showing how fast it quieted down after the first cold start:

Got some polyurethane 3-hole and epdm hangers to help adjust the tip positioning. The outside holes of the poly hangers are offset from the center so I could flip one to counter the added weight of the Helmholtz resonator on one side. The epdm ones are also a bit shorter than OEM. Super happy with this exhaust.

Are the polyurethane 3-hole and epdm hangers necessary? How did they sit before? Do you get drone with this exhaust? Does the valve rattle? I'm hella interested in this exhaust :D

I love this exhaust, I haven’t seen or heard anything that would make me want another.

Swapping the hangers isn’t necessary, but I think was worth it for my install. I could tell the passenger side hung a little lower than the driver and I wanted to correct that, and try to prevent sagging over time. It was really only a matter of a couple millimeters.

No valve rattle, but unlike other valved install info, connecting the controller to have it “reset” wasn’t necessary, the MXP arrived in the correct position to mate it to how the controller defaulted after shutting off the car. I don’t think you should have to twist/preload the coil at all to line it up with the notches in the top of the valve.

There’s no large change in volume at any particular RPM and it never gets boomy. I have PRL RMM and it’s a comparably balanced amount of bass from the that and the MXP. If you have music turned up to 20, you can still just hear the exhaust, conversations are perfectly comfortable. The senior tech at the dealer that did my steering rack recall really liked it, and sales guys thought it was tasteful.

A friend followed me for about an hour through hilly backroads, highway and city streets, and was surprised how deep and controlled the sound was no matter what, whether WOT, downshifting or coasting in gear.

Can you send me the link to the hangers you got? I’m ocd about alignment and I would hate to go under and replace them after installation.

The exact 90 degree epdm hangers I bought aren’t showing up on Amazon anymore but they’re really similar to the Honda ones.

the poly 3-hole bushings are Torque Solutions:
