I saw that mikstore sells a Honda smart key card; it says to ship them your spare key, and they'll program a smart card for it and send it back. Has anyone had it done? Does anyone know if it's a service that's provided by an American company? It'd be great to make my keychain lighter. Thanks!

I was curious about the same thing, I feel like a while back I seen a post somewhere about it. Maybe it was on Facebook I might make a post and see what responses I get and report back.

This idea intrigues me. Not the part about sending a key to the Philippines, but intriguing nonetheless

At the moment no American dealership or entity has the capability to program the card. Only Euro and JDM FL5s received the card so only they can program it at the moment. Doub there's enough interest for someone in America to take on the challenge

  • Or, we can ship a blank key card and you buy your own key programming tool, or find a car locksmith or we can also sell the programming tool and help you do it.
"

Hmm i wonder how much the tool costs. Would there be enough interest in this to take on as a project?

Google the Launch Creader elite 2.0. I found some videos that claim it can program keys, and it is surprisingly reasonably priced on Amazon. However, I can find nothing on the Amazon site that confirms it programs key fob and further even if it can handle standard fobs, can it handle the smart card key?

Also is it confirmed that the smart card key is even compatible with our Us market keys?

Edit. I reached out to mikstore and asked my last question. I'll report back

Update: mikstore says the smart card is compatible with my US 25 si. I've now asked whether any tool that can program a standard fobs can also program a smart card key, or does the smart card require a special tool. Awaiting an answer.

Update. A few days back and forth with mikstore was very unhelpful. They would not confirm or deny if any tool capable of programming a smart fob could also program a smart card. All they did was send me a very blurry picture of whatever tool they use.

The good news is that the Launch people were actually responsive and tell me the cread 2.0 can program a fob or card for my car. I'm not 100% convinced but seeing as the cread is on sale for $150 I said f it and ordered it figuring at a minimum I'd get a nice upgrade for a scan tool over my old ap200. It has arrived and I plugged it in to confirm that yes, indeed it has the menus available for programming keys on my 25 si. Based off of that I've ordered the smart card from mikstore. Wish me luck.

As an aside it's eye-opening how apparently cheap it is to order a tool that can program keys for a new car. Use faraday bags if you keep your car in a driveway peeps.

Success!

It wasn't easy, and it took 30 min or so of retrys but I got the smart card to work with my 25 si!

The launch creeder isn't the easiest thing to use and the menus aren't especially intuitive but I got it done. now I can ditch my keyring baby!

Sorry I am clueless here — so you can just walk up to your car with this new key card and the car unlocks? How does it all work?

It works exactly like your smart fob that came with the car except it has no remote buttons. So it unlocks with the door handle and you can set walk away autolock. It's the size of 2-3 credit cards so it fits in my wallet nicely. It does come with a physical key blank that I will need to get cut at some point.

But you loose your physical key? And you don't have any buttons to lock/unlock the doors I guess.

Just to keep in mind if your battery is dead or for some reason the card won't work...

No. If you'll go back and read, you'll see that the card comes with a physical key as well.
