That’s the one of the bad things about the K20C1.. it’s pretty hard to make these Type R’s sound decent without too much raspiness, due to the integrated exhaust manifold that’s built into the head or so called “headifold”, the only way to really alter or change the sound is downpipe and exhaust. No more upgrading the exhaust manifold like older K engines sadly. But having an integrated exhaust manifold does come with its benefits, which I’ll gladly take over altering the sound.Exactly my thoughts! Although this topic of sound is 100% subjective.. I must say I love the sound of rumbling V8s, who doesn't? However, I am very picky when it comes to exhaust sounds on smaller output engines (4 cylinders). There's a difference between noise vs good sound. Old school Subaru STI had a good sound. I want some sound there when I put my foot down, but I don't want noise when I'm cruising just for the sake of being louder. Also not a fan of pops and bangs on these small engines, sounds like literally fire crackers, I don't want firecrackers in my muffler lol.
And I agree with the pops and bangs, only exception is if the car pops from real HP, not from a simple tune that everyone does nowadays.
