Has it already been discussed why Honda opted for a 3-year production run for the FL5 (sorry if I missed it)?

Is it the roadmap for the Type R/Honda in general to hybridization and electrification? I know the situation is mostly the same with Toyota's upcoming GR Corolla; are they only planning to stick that car in the market as such for ~3 years, too? I realize Honda's also been one of the hardest-hit manufacturers in terms of supply chain issues debilitating their manufacturing output numbers—so is it simply a matter of them only producing what they can given the circumstances?

Interested to hear what the discourse has been and other members' thoughts!
Yes, all sources have confirmed 3 year run.

Oh man. Now when you put it like that it makes me feel completely hopeless. I hope you're proven wrong somehow and everyone who put a deposit down for a pre booking gets their CTR without an insane markup.
You and me both brother.
I don't think you have to worry about markups TBH. I think all units have already been allocated to friends and family of the dealerships. Getting the opportunity to BUY with a Markup is already a win IMIO.

I'm pretty sure long as there is a Civic and there is a demand for a Type R, it'll keep getting made. Honda isn't going to stop making or remove a model in high demand especially a historic name plate like the R.

No no, I'm asking have we already discussed why Honda opted for a 3-year production run. ?

That is—relative to Honda's long-term corporate goals, the current circumstances, their competitor's positions, etc.

Demand is 1 thing, but its not everything. Strategic product roadmap trumps demand. The R isn't their most profitable SKU either, not by a long shot. Its a special costly endeavour for them.

From a business standpoint, 3 years makes 100% sense, as EV is the cores strategy moving forward in the next 5-10 years. In demand means nothing if it holds you back from achieving your long term goals, EV.

Just look at the Focus ST, Fiesta ST, Focus RS, Evo 10, STI etc etc. Demand isn't what you guys think it is in the grand scheme of things.

Not only that, but they were quoted as saying, they wanted it to remain a small run.

In the UK and Europe at least, I think the limited run will be largely driven by emissions regulations too, which are based on a manufacturers' average across all models its sells in the relevant market. So the Type R, which will be probably the model with highest emissions in Honda's lineup, will be dropped to help meet the increasingly strict EU and UK requirements.

There's also an argument that the Type R has an important halo effect for the brand. That's accomplished well within a limited run, so in that respect there's not much point in keeping pumping them out for years I guess.

Yes Honda has committed and shown a presentation illustrating they are aiming to release 30 BRAND NEW EV's by 2030. So the writing is on the wall for Honda Performance ICE.

Call your local dealerships GM, or Territorial manager, or wait until September for the official release of the information. You will get it for sure.

If the information will influence your actions from now until then, I would bet on the side that the information is credible.

I’m not sure why people are flipping out about this. You can’t even buy a used FK8 at or below MSRP. Hell they’re selling for$45k with 20-30k miles. People need to chill. If they don’t want to buy one, don’t be mad at the people willing to pay for them lol
This. The thread got strangely personal there for awhile, all over something that is fairly simple in nature. MSRP literally means "manufacturer suggested retail price." It means little when it comes to a product like the Type R, of which there are far more interested buyers than there are cars available (especially when they first come to market).

Right, I guess 3 years makes sense from a timeline/roadmap perspective then. It's going to be surreal when Type R refers to Honda's performance EVs 8-10 years from now.

I wonder what an FL5 LE could look like in the ICE's swan song year, if they do it!

100% there will be a LE for the FL5. I bet forged wheels, tons of carbon and carbon wing, weight reduction and uprated suspension at minimum.

I am dealer. I didn't hear any of this ultra limited stuff.

Of course I'm an American dealer.

I just hear and read the same stuff as everyone else and I haven't see anything state how limited this will be.
