it’s hard to pull the trigger and pay $8k over msrp if I haven’t even driven one. How does one justify this?
TRUTH! That was my problem as well. In fact, just sitting in one in a dealer's showroom gave me concern that it might not work out... is the car in their showroom? have you ever driven an FK8?

I justify it by reminding myself that someone out there paid $20-25k over. It helps me sleep at night.

haha I wish! It’s arriving in 2 weeks or so. They have a stupid policy that after putting down a $2,500 non refundable deposit, you have to pick up the car within 24 hours otherwise they keep the deposit and you lose the car. Additionally, the markup included a mandatory interior/exterior coating or undercoating (pick your poison). Their stupid policy about taking delivery in 24 hrs and the coating just puts a bad taste in my mouth. We have a busy summer with travel and they don’t seem to be reasonable. If you’re ripping me off and making me pay a premium, at least be reasonable to work with. I don’t want to condone and support that shitty behavior

It also helps that from what i hear... the FK8 didn't drop much until the very end... that those typically had an ADM even without the degree of media attention this is getting.

wow... agreed!! Is that an Illinois dealer? If it is, then it's illegal for them to keep your deposit unless they consider it a sale... and then you have 24 hours on a large purchase to back out. But, the coating is something many dealers are requiring... it's a scam, but if you consider it just a markup (and not a value-added, because it's not), then you are paying 8k ADM -- which is a better price than most people are being quoted.

the one thing most of us are banking on (literally) is that the car will hold its value if we do eventually trade it in. If it weren't for that, i would never have spent even a dime over msrp. there are too many people with underwater loans, and the market is going down every day... i had to justify paying even 40k for a car -- i choked when they announced the car would have msrp over 40k.

Just sent you a PM -- you can at least see a CTR in person. Too bad you missed the Skokie Cars and Coffee meet a couple of weekends ago... 2 of us had our CTRs there, and you could have gotten a lot of info and opinions from other owners of FK8s and other performance cars.

agreed I see the coating as a way for them to get alittle more out of me and trying to justify it as added value. I plan on doing PPF and a ceramic coating of my choosing.

I guess the question is, would these ever dip below $50k? I only drive like 5k miles a year

We obviously have no way of knowing... but, some people on here have found 5k ADMs or less... it's whether you want to wait and how hard you want to work at it. A few just got lucky -- being in the right place at the right time -- and others had to work their tails off to get it.

If you only drive 5k miles a year, what is attracting you to this car?? Most of us need a car that has both performance AND utility -- that it has cargo and passenger space. If you aren't going to need it for that, then if you are going to be in the 50k range right now, you could get any number of 2-door wonders.

It's def worth 5k adm in my opinion , there's just nothing else like it for below 50k. I also expect my24s to get a nice price increase so something to consider as well. Alternatively, if you want to pay MSRP only, you will probably be able to get an ITS allocation.

@1971Camaro I don’t drive a ton either, and my car will be garaged thru winter. For me the FL5 is an attainable dream car, and I LOVE Hondas. I wanted the FK8 pretty badly and could’ve gotten one, but I didn’t feel the the styling was for me. So when the FL5 finally appeared, I said to myself “That’s it. I’m getting one” and I did. There simply isn’t any other car in its price/performance range that I’d personally rather pay my hard earned cash for. I’d have considered the ITS too if it was available at the time.

Yes, you are right... for the time you ARE driving, it's important to drive something you enjoy!!

But, as you say, there are other cars to consider when spending this kind of money. If the unique features of a 4-door hatch, FWD, or the styling/interior of this particular car is critical, then this is THE car. And while i LOVE this car, i am still torn as to whether i will regret it next winter when i'm trying to drive through the snow :p

So, for those in the northern climates, you may also need to budget for at least all-season tires if driving your CTRs in the winter.

p.s. - if i get to track it... that will be a different story ;)

@1971Camaro I lived in Wisconsin for 6 years and prior to that South Dakota for 4 years. We moved to Champaign last summer. Had my Si the whole time prior to selling it last fall. You’ll be fine with your CTR in Chicago winters, especially with snow tires. I had Blizzaks for only 2 years while in Wisconsin. Wish I’d have gotten them sooner.

Granted, there were times when only vehicles, like my wife’s MDX, could get out of the neighborhood. Surely you wouldn’t be looking to drive your CTR on days like that anyway, unless you REALLY had to.

Well, it's my only car, and my spouse also works, so it would have to be used. I'm just lucky that i often work from home... but i don't have control over that.

If it’s any consolation, the minute my car rolled off the truck, had Continental DWS O6 plus all season put on the car. They have been fine and work great in MN. It cost me about, $1300 installed. As of now, just keeping the OEM tires for Summer. Still deciding what to do ?
Enjoy the car. It’s fine in cold weather!
Regards
