Hello! I'm looking to buy a 2023 Civic Si and stumbled upon one for sale near me. It's exactly what i'm looking for. My only concern is the car fax seems to have some oddities in it's short life. My main concern is the tires being replaced once by the owner at 1500km, and again after it was traded in to an Alfa dealer by the dealer themselves. I'm buying it CPO from Honda and in person it looked and drove nicely - it only has 7800 kms on it. Any thoughts? My only concern if it was tracked and dumped. May sound silly but im just making sure its a good car!

That no start/hard start thing is a bit concerning, the dealer likely doesn't know about those problems or didn't care enough to check them thoroughly. Did you get a chance to drive the car more aggressively? How about why the car was traded in?

Thanks for the reply! The “no start” entry was over a year ago.
I drove the car for 30 minutes, drove perfect with no issues including under wot.

They said it was traded in to an Alfa dealer and sold to them through some dealer pipeline (don’t necessarily know how that works). The dealer is Henley Honda. I’ve worked with them for over 10 years and they’re a great dealer. My concern doesn’t sit with them

Knowing why it was traded in would definitely ease your fears of the wheels/tires being a problem I think, like what made the Alfa dealer want to change those tires?

That’s my only real concern. The dealer said they just get the car, inspect it and look at the documented history, they don’t ask why they’re traded in.

They said it’s not entirely uncommon and it can happen for a few reasons. For example if the car had mismatching front and rear tires due to a repair or otherwise. Alfa would change them before selling it to Honda to get more money as it would be ready to be sold CPO.

I’m not in the industry so I don’t really know how these things work. All they told me is it’s not super uncommon.

I find it odd too which is the reason for my concern, just don’t know if it’s worth skipping this car altogether because of it. It’s by far the best 2023 example near me aside from this one thing.

That’s always the risk of buying used and why you pay less for a used car (usually). Even a used car with perfect history could’ve been beaten on daily. If the car looks well cared for, and ideally the service records are in order, then get an extended warranty and go. I think you’re overthinking the tire thing. Could’ve been that they had a blowout and replaced it with a different tire.

That is true! I would buy new, but insurance for a 2026 is much, much more a month where I live as opposed to a 2023.

It’s all good. Sometimes we all need a good dose of logic and reason so we don’t spiral into worrying unreasonably. Take another look at it. If you can, bring an outside mechanic with you to look it over too. I think that will help put your mind at ease, since there’s no way you can know the car’s prior history.

I think the car is a good deal if it's genuinely got no problems, what's it being sold for? Most 11th gen SIs go for basically MSRP (like maybe 2-3k less)

33k CAD (23.6k USD) which is the average for an 11th gen si like this in Ontario. It has 7k km which is about 4.6k miles

If it was driven hard enough to wear through 2 sets of tires, the brake pads should show significant wear.

You can look at brake pad thickness using an inspection mirror (small mirror on a telescoping wand) through the wheels. I recommend using a small flashlight too. Pads should be near new (90% thickness) in normal driving.

Hopefully the problem was just due to a mismatched replacement tire.

Thanks. I will take a look.

Yeah that's really good, where I am an si with much more mileage than that goes for a lot more
