As someone who has owned or driven a wide variety of cars - not mega-million dollar hyper-cars, but pretty much everything else, the FK8 in my garage, and no doubt the FL5 and DE5, hold their own quite well, thank you.
By all means drive other cars when the opportunity presents itself. But...
As for rotating - yes it will rotate.
Trail-braking is one way, traction off really helps, but don't forget the Scandinavian flick. Look it up if you need to. Takes a bit of nerve, but will definitely break loose the back. Also, if you hit some road with loose gravel, etc. it will slide...
Last longer road trip was in the SI from Phoenix area to Palm Springs. I don't recommend that drive.
Four or five hours of pretty much nothing to look at.
Hope to do a road trip in the Type R, but so far 90 minutes is about the longest. Felt great at least for that amount of time, so think it...
Great color, great ar. Welcome to Type R ownership!
If you have to learn manual, this was an excellent car to do it in. Light clutch, world class shifter.
Hopefully you didn't grind the gears too much, or stall too many times. Unavoidable when first learning. If you didn't do either of those...
Welcome! Gorgeous collection.
It is always interesting to have someone who owns and has regularly driven some of the best enthusiast cars out there, comment on how the feeling of driving a Type R stacks up.
Apparently very well.
Will be interested to read your take once the car is broken...
This: Get the FL5. Or even a used FK8. If you are already unimpressed and hesitant to buy the ITS, that feeling will only get worse over time.
Other than the sound of the ITS, can't think of anything it has that would be better.
Getting seats wrong is a deal killer right there. The FK8 and...
The joy of owning and driving what is one of the very best enthusiast daily drivers available - at any price is was more important than the deal you got. At the end of their life, nobody looks back and says ' I wish I had paid less for...' What they do say is ' I wish I had gone ahead and...'...
Traded an Aegean Blue SI to get my Type R. Our other car - the one my wife usually drives -is a classic 2002 Lexus SC430 hardtop convertible coupe.
It is everything the Type R isn't and vice versa.
Ironically, the 4.3 L 8-cylinder in the Lexus makes the same power as the 2.0L four in the Honda...
You are about as likely to get a test drive from a Phoenix dealer in a new FL5 as you are to have them all and offer it to you at MSRP. Less likely even.
Based on my own experience in this market area.
So do what I did and find a used one - that really is the best advice. Or find someone on...
Long thread - now I am 68 and have had my FK8 for four years. It is a keeper.
Owning a car like this is like playing lead guitar - if you are not sure of yourself, don't bother.
Once you get out of clickbait world into the real world - plenty of people of all ages like the styling and will...
So true - the price on everything, Hyundai included, has gone up - but the Elantra N and the Veloster N before it were a lot of bang for the buck. I went straight from the SI to the CTR but did consider the N cars before I found my used CTR. Overall, though, I still strongly prefer Honda.
But...
At least when I bought my '17 SI with said 1.5T - which by the way had no reliability issues while I owned it, my cost was $ 23,500 - brand new. How Honda justifies that engine now in the $ 30K+ 11th gen SI, I can't see. Not when you can get a decent used FK8 with the fantastic 2.0L turbo for...
The joke goes like this...I got a test drive, and paid $ 35K, MSRP for a 2018 Civic Type R!
However, I had to wait until 2020 when it had 13,800 miles to test drive it, and pay that original MSRP.
And guess what? I would do it again in a heartbeat.
I bought my '17 SI new, and paid a little...
