Yeah so don’t sweat it, it should be fine. Lets see if the radiator can help cool things down.
Looked back at the video, I ran that thing hot for 15 minutes before it displayed the over temp warning. Not good... Never noticed a lack of performance or the car pulling back. Might explain the color of the center pipe.

My reasoning is that the rejected power that goes into the oil should be the same as in the FK8, and the heat exchanger is the same. What makes the Oil temp rise quicker in the FL5 (even though ECTs are A LOT better) and slower on the FK8? My FK8 never saw 150 C Oil temp after 2 laps on the same track at the same day. I reasoned the increased coolant flow resulted in less heat being extracted from the oil, what I mentioned as "less efficient". Yours, if any, is a FAR easier issue to solve, but it makes me curious anyway because I wanted to increase the coolant flow as well.
Keller, while you're on here, do you have any use for a J's racing carbon grill, or verus engineering rear carbon spoiler?

Found the video. Looks like the maximum temp hit 258, and the oil temp will only go as high as 302 before it just turns into empty dash marks. Coolant bars were all the way up on the left hand gauge. My fault entirely for not noticing. The dash had popped on a message saying that the engine was too hot and to allow the vehicle to cool, but I went an entire lap with that message on because I simply didn't notice it. Log R was not available on the large screen that is easier to scrutinize at speed because I had accidentally hit some button on the steering wheel, and could not select log r again because I had gloves on. Still my fault, but it would be nice if the car would do a little more to tell you to chill out. I couldn't hear any chimes, and there was no warning when the coolant had gone past half way on the gauge. I didn't even notice the car pulling power, and my track times certainly don't indicate that I was losing power.
Yeah, 302 F/150 C is the maximum reported oil temp, but your oil temps were certainly lower than that because of your oil cooler. Now I wonder how you didn't notice the ECT bars? I mean, coming from an FK8, you certainly were used to look at that every now and then.

> I didn't even notice the car pulling power, and my track times certainly don't indicate that I was losing power.

The ECU doesn't pull power on ECT alone, only because of IAT2 and EGT calculated. I suppose your new IC kept IAT2 healthy the whole time.

As I mentioned earlier, you are the first one that I know of to upgrade to an FL5 that used to track hard their FK8 (we can safely ignore gridzilla observations for now). And, as we know, overheating is entirely driver dependent. For instance, we know from the FK8 that any oil cooler in front of the radiator shifts the problem back to coolant temps. But the 3 guys I know running this HEL oil cooler never reported any problems. Maybe that's what's happening here?

I'm beyond annoyed with this. I chased overheating with the FK8 and threw a bunch of money at it...and here I go again...
Don't be. Cooling mods would be required one way or another, as I suppose you intend to tune your car in the future. The FL5 is a far superior starting point.

Damn, thats scary. Don't feel too bad though - it can happen to the best of us. Fingers crossed its all OK.

You can set warning parameters on the Log R for water and oil temps - I would set water to 105°C (221°F), and oil to 130°C(266°F).
I have never exceeded these temps on track but I'm not one to do 20 minute full send sessions - I cool down after 2-3 hot laps at most.

I see you changed your handle!

I just saw a video of your car. What are those lug nuts you are using? Rays dura nuts? Are you using them at the track?

PWR Track Spec Radiator installed! I've seen lower engine temps during my commute. Will learn more at the track this weekend. I'll be bringing the factory intercooler with me should I experience higher than wanted engine temps so that I can perform a fact check for the folks commenting on my overheat thread, but I'm hoping the problem is solved. Please keep in mind that I'll be running the heat and removing the rain guard under the hood vent regardless.

I was your first viewer of that video. Just thought I share that. Lol
My wife asked me why is the view just your backend. I said, you’re not a YouTuber with multiple cameras. You’re a racer. Doing us all a favor by figuring out how to not overheat the CTR? Her response was, this one still overheats? You told me it wouldn’t when we traded in the FK8.

The first viewer gets a virtual high five good sir!

I need to find a different solution for the go-pro. Maybe a chest mount or something like that. This way with the bubble effect it will appear as if a praying mantis is wrenching on the car :headbang:

lol...I traded my FK8 because of the overheating issue too! I was shocked when the FL5 did the same!

I sincerely hope that the results at this next track event are promising, and that the problem is solved! I was able to sign up for track time on Friday as well, so I'll have 3 days worth of torturing the car to find out!

I decided to sign up for Friday, Saturday and Sunday at VIR. For this I replaced my front brake pads with new Paragon R7's w/ titanium shims, brand new Nitto NT01 tires, bled the brakes with fresh RBF 660, and topped off/checked all fluids. Here is how the car sits in track form with TE37's. Expecting rain tomorrow afternoon, so I'll be bringing my CE28's that have the Michelin PS4S tires on them so that I don't miss out on any track time in the wet!

Thank you sir for your dedication! Unfortunately, I’ll not likely see track time like you do in your car but I would like to give it a go at some point. Interested and following along to see how you go. Planning some very light OE+ for my car at some point but in no hurry, it’ll handle the mountain roads no problem as it is. If you guys that do this much more frequently find some important link to keeping it cool though, that’d be something I’d consider if I ever decide to push it more than just a tune.

Back in one piece! The downpipe really helped give the exhaust a throatier and sportier sound! Maybe I'll be able to hear the engine through my helmet now ?
