Picked it up a few hours ago! Long wait, but so worth it. 48600 OTD. I’m very thankful. Special thanks to Aspec, tuhroo, and Tickle for all the updates and information! Love this forum!
Congrats! Finally…. it came!

My CTR arrived at my dealer in Tennessee Friday evening. They are leaving at 1am Sunday morning to deliver it to me 13.5 hours away, so I’m pretty pumped!

I bypassed the sales team when searching for mine and had a much better experience. I worked with the head of finance and he has been on top of everything. They didn’t PDI the car and left the shipping blocks in for re-transport as requested.

Also, they didn’t drive it to put gas in it and locked her up in the body shop - they are closed on weekends so she’ll be safe.

I’m definitely heavily OCD but I already own the car and know the crazy things that can go down at a dealer. All it takes is one person lol…

The shifter in this car is on another level. Brings me back to my S2000 days! I was honestly quite shocked in the step-up in overall feel and interior quality when compared to the FK8. Makes sense why the MSRP increased quite a bit.

You can definitely tell that the Golf R is going to be quicker off the line (6 speed. DSG is even quicker). The Golf has a more linear power delivery compared to the Type R. I haven’t really punched it too much on the FL5, but I have owned two FK8s in the past so I’m familiar with the engine dynamics. The Type R is just more fun to drive period. I couldn’t care less about 0-60 times. The steering and shifting absolutely destroys VW. The Golf R is built for comfort and performance (does both very well) and would be the more comfortable daily driver. But at the end of the day, the Type R feels incredibly special. No heated seats or sunroof, but honestly who gives a crap when a car feels this amazing? (The ambient lighting in the Golf is quite sick though ?)

This is just insane, I don't even believe it that a dealership is going that out of the way for you. Did you pay 25adm or something??

Lol I’m sure your car will be fine. When I first got mine and it was getting detailed I had a nightmare that they kids in here shop took it for a joyride and totaled it.

Nope, haha. 99% of the dealers are complete trash through. I had to weed through a lot of garbage to find one good dealer.

I’m not proud of it but I paid $5,555 over MSRP + $699 dealer fee with the delivery included and no add ons. Not horrible since there were no local options and shipping would have run $1,300-$1,900 for a reputable carrier.

Most importantly, I got the exact spec I wanted and trusted the dealer.

The way I looked at it was if I found a car out of state for $3,000 over and they had a $1,000 dealer fee. I’m at $4,000 + transport and I’m nearly at the same number.

I don’t think most people realize how much a dealer fee, transport, trade in and financing can alter a deal.
