Hi all, I just changed the rotor and pad last week. I got a constant scarping at left wheel after everything was done... So we jack the car up but did not see anything... I try a shake the shield couple time and the scarping sound went away.

So now there is no sound when I go straight, but I had noticed similar sound when turning, especially turning left... I took video with my phone, both inside and outside the car. Does that sound like a rock scarping rotor? if so why would it happen only when turning...

Thanks in advance

Sounds like the rotor shield to me for sure . Maybe you bent the shield when you did the brakes definitely sounds like it’s dragging on something. Did you replace it with stock rotors ?

Not with stock rotor. I went with DBA 5000 slotted rotor.

I would check to make sure you have the correct size for the FL5 . That might be why it’s dragging on the shield or again possibly bent the shield when installing.

If it was a rock it would be noticeably louder. Rocks get in behind the dust shield and create a lot of ear-piercing noise. This sounds different like a minimal rub. Something out of alignment or something maybe not fully bolted down etc. ?

interesting sound. sounds kinda grindy like a rock but like someone else mentioned usually its much louder and super annoying if its a rock.

mine makes a metalic noise when turning left going slow in the drive through lane at fast food places. but i’m thinking mine might be the brakes itself i’m not sure. like maybe the pad is barely rubbing up against the rotor or
something. i haven’t taken mine in yet to see what it is though. that’s the only thing i could think of.

I think I found the issue. DBA rotor is different shape compare to stock, or FK8 has a different shield design. So the inside of the rotor is touching the shield, only at 2 points. I grind the part where shield is touching the rotor and so far so good. But I am still not sure why the sound is only obvious at left turn, when the steering is 3/4 turns or more...
