Hey guys. Got engaged recently and have been going back and forth on trading in my G87 to get my payment lower and pull out the equity I have in the car to help with new home/wedding costs.

Pulled the trigger today and put a deposit on a black 25 FL5. Sticker is $47,090. There’s some paint swirls in it so I was able to talk them down to $43,100. Picking it up Monday.

I guess my first question is how bad is the torque steer in this car really? I plan on getting the Phearable stage 2 tune with prolly just an intake and maybe an intercooler. Is 1-2nd gear like essentially useless in this car with the torque steer lol.

Also, for anyone else running the Pherable tune: how many miles have you had it? Did anyone track theirs without an intercooler? Did the stock cooling system do well on the track even with the tune? Is the Pherable tune considered fairly reliable with the ITS bangs?

Anything else I should know about?

I’ll post pics of my car later. Look forward to being part of the Honda community lol. Truthfully, at heart, I’m a Japanese car guy anyway. Had a Lexus IS250 a while ago, and I daily a 2016 CRV with only 52k miles. Prolly will last me another 10 years lol.

4 grand off for paint swirls?
Haha. Well, they already listed it for $1k below sticker, so it was really $3k off. Part of it I’m assuming is because they originally gave me a horrible offer for my trade-in, and then the sales manager called me the next day and was basically like yeah he severely low balled you—they were trying to make up for that probably. I only asked for a discount because of the paint swirls though lol.

What torque steer? Doesn’t exist until you start screwing with the offset.

May I ask if you have driven an FL5?
I’ve driven it, but it was a very short commute, and I didn’t drive it spiritedly—didn’t even put it in R+. It’s a FWD….presumably there is some sort of torque steer in the lower gears at hard acceleration. I’ve heard some ppl complain about it.

It's got a little bit of torque steer (like 0-60 while rapidly making a turn), but when compared with any other fwd car, it's non-existent.

Is this a used car? What's the mileage like? If it's new I wonder how it got swirls!

Yeah it’s new. Their detailers just don’t know how to wash cars apparently. I’m taking it immediately to get polished and ceramic coated so I’m hoping my detailer can get them out…

I traded in my F87 on an FL5 and couldn't be happier. About the only thing I miss is the F87 was 3" shorter and 5" narrower. BMW's auto high-beam feature was better, too. On track, the FL5 has been smooth as butter compared to the M2.

I now understand why buyers ask dealers to skip the normal sales prep on vehicles. My dealer used swamp water to clean the interior for delivery. I ended up trading a faint mold smell for burnt ozone smell from an Amazon ozone generator. This summer was the first time my '23 finally had a neutral interior odor since I picked it up October 2023. Lesson learned.

You're going to want to get some decent winter tires on it if you're driving it in MI. When the temp dips below 45F the stock tires get greasy.

Good to hear from another M2 owner. Can’t say I’m happy to let go of the M2, but I am excited to see how the Type-R does. I actually wanted the Type-R initially, but one of my best friend’s father-in-law is a manager at a BMW dealer, so I kinda got influenced lol.

Also, no way in hell I’m driving it in the winter here. I’m going to my detailer, and then itin my garage.

We just had the first snow of the season today:

Welcome. Check this out. As a black owner as well, a polish and ceramic coat are a must.

That thread is what convinced me to go with the black. They also had a sonic grey at the dealership, but I like the black better—it really makes the red Honda emblems and the Type-R badge pop. I also think the OEM forged wheels look awesome paired with black. That’s ganna be the first thing I buy in the spring.

You're a smart man, sir! Same here (except I'm making quick trips to the dyno and my tuner for an RV6 sway bar and Whiteline camber ball joints install, so it'll be parked before turkey day). I tried to become a BMW guy (I've been a member of BMW CCA for two decades), but it just wasn't me. As soon as I stepped back into my JDM roots, I was way more comfortable, and my bank account sighed with relief.
