Definitely don't hide that gauge. This car has a common issue with the plastic coolant reserve tank where it cracks and you lose coolant and the tank needs to be replaced. You definitely wanna catch it soon when it happens and seeing higher temps via that gauge is a good way to identify it if you are not one to open the hood often.
