Have a friend that has a kit for sale. It's a good price! Had some questions cause my research has been telling me not to do the blow off valve.

So my questions are:

1. Why not?
2. Do I need a tune?
3. What other relevant information do I need to know?

For a 2023 CTR FL5

The car measures incoming air prior to the blow-off valve. That calculation is used to determine appropriate levels of fuel, etc. If you don't recirculate the air from the blow-off valve, there will be a discrepancy between how much air the car expects to receive (measured pre blow-off valve) and how much air it actually receives (post blow-off valve). This discrepancy may or may not be significant enough to cause a problem. Tuning is irrelevant, because any tune will also suffer from the same issue as the stock setup: you are measuring air prior to the valve, but the valve is releasing air, and the car is getting less air post valve than it thinks it is.

Personally, I would not be comfortable running one, as it has an indisputable negative impact on the car's ability to correctly regulate afr, etc. Having said that, the severity of the impact is disputable. You could argue (and many do) that a second or two of running slightly rich isn't that big of a deal. I won't try to tell you that the impact is substantial enough to cause harm to your vehicle; it may not actually result in a mechanical problem. There appear to be people on this forum that are running them (and have been running them) and have avoided any serious problems. YMMV.

Yup, what ABPDE5 said.

I've been running the HKS SSQV to atmosphere for a couple months now without any problems. It's been my favorite mod so far. That chirp between shifts is too much fun. If you're getting the FL5 kit, the install is a major pain. See the other HKS SSQV thread for some useful install tips.

Thank y'all for your help! I think I'll pass this go around until I can find something that's more OEM+ and doesn't affect the recalculation of the air past the sensor. Thanks again!

Just like the FK8 variant, HKS offers a recirculating version on the FL5 for those who don’t want to vent to atmosphere.

But If you’re just chasing for noise and don’t want any issues, best option is to simply upgrade your air intake and inlet.

If you’re still curious, I’d recommend hitting up a reputable tuner as well for some additional guidance or more knowledge about BOV’s for our K20C1 platform.
