Has anyone ever adjusted their OEM shifter cables?

After installing my new clutch it would seem that my shifter cables need to be adjusted. I cannot find a single guide anywhere online for how to do this. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

As far as I know, there is no adjustment. What is the issue you are having?

After doing the clutch the car ran fine for 2 days or so until the car stalled on me in a parking lot. Stalled two more times before lurching forward while the car was in neutral.

Only thing I could figure is that somehow during the install something was left loose which allowed the transmission into gear while the linkage remained in the neutral position.

When I got the car on the lift I started it, made sure it was in neutral and the wheels spun up to 17 mph after releasing the clutch.

I've replaced clutches on other cars and the linkages didn't require adjustment.

I rebuilt my 911 transaxle and made adjustments inside the transmission, but not to the shift linkage. The shift pattern is normally the result of transmission internals and not shift lever gates (like old 308 Ferarri).

I recommend rebleeding the slave cylinder and going easy on the clutch for a couple weeks. New clutches tend to feel a bit odd before break-in. I assume you topped up the transmission fluid in the process.

Did the gear indicator say “N”, or was it showing that it was in gear when you felt neutral? I imagine the shifter must feel odd.

gear indicator says N, but the wheels spin to about 19 mph at idle rpm when the clutch is released. The shifter will not move into any gear position other than neutral. It can move freely around the neutral slot, but absolutely will not go into gear

Trans fluid was checked (surprisingly no leakage) and I actually had been taking it rather easy. Exedy said 750 mile break in period for the clutch. I think it’s worth noting that this engine is actually surprisingly healthy for the amount of miles and beatings it’s received. I measure out my oil to the ounce before it goes in and remeasure it when it comes out and I’ve never lost more than what would be a reasonable margin of error.

sure sounds like there’s an issue with one of the shifter cables. Did you check the connections of the cables on top of the transmission? Maybe one is binding somehow?

sure sounds like there’s an issue with one of the shifter cables. Did you check the connections of the cables on top of the transmission? Maybe one is binding somehow?
Currently have full access to both sides of the cables, nothing is binding, can even move the shifter with the transmission side of the cables

So with the cables disconnected from the transmission, you can’t move the cables in and out at all? Can you move the selector arms on the transmission with the cables detached?

after several hours, 5 or so phone calls, including a call with the head tech at my local Honda, everything going on points to a bent shift fork. No fucking clue how or why, but should be covered under warranty.

Shit man, that sucks! But if it’s covered under warranty, that’s one positive. Good luck, man.

If the clutch was dragging with the pedal all the way in, the effort to get into gear would have increased. Things like that can lead to bent shift forks.

In all senses of what a clutch does- it works perfectly. Disconnects engine from the transmission. The issue is definitely transmission side. And based on everything going on all signs lead to a bent shift fork.
