Hey all, I recently bought the OEM Carbon fiber wing and kind of nervous on torquing the screws on. I set the torque to 6lb ft 85nm but when I was tightening it, I start to hear some light minor crackling sound. The screw will still turn but I stopped instantly. The screw holes itself should be metal i assume so I dont think any thread is breaking. Im kinda scared to put more force on turning. Can anyone that installed this tell me if it normal? It kinda snugged right now but would like to toque it to spec if possible.

I didn’t hear any sounds like that when installing mine. Are you positive you set your wrench to 6 ft lbs? You made sure there’s no dirt in the threads or on the mounting surfaces?

Im not sure if there any dirt in the thread, I just unscrewed the old wing, but it would sound like it crunched through a piece of sand kinda noise. The torque was set right, I just proceed with it today and it worked out and hit the mark.

It's over with now but for future reference for anyone that reads this thread - I'd just say to make sure you are using an appropriately sized torque wrench and also that you trust it's calibration.

Glad to hear there were no issues!

/\ agree.

You want to use a 1/4 wrench. There are 3/8s that go down to even 6nm but on all torque wrenches you don't want to use the lowest 20% of the wrench as its not calibrated to the 2%/3% the rest is.

I use a beam style torque wrench for stuff like that. I feel it is much more precise for small and low torque items. 6ft/lb is almost nothing.
