Great suggestion, I appreciate it. I 'm planning to go to the Parts Department of my local Honda Dealership on Monday and show it to them.

Honda's part numbers have always been pretty easy to decode. However, i can't find parts for the 11th gen on any sites, so 10th gen references is all we have to work with. Honda 84655-TGG-A01ZA is a part number for a similar looking panel for the 10th gen hatch. 846XX is the code for the rear interior parts, TXX is the body code, ex. TBA is the genX si/sedan, TGG is often the hatch. I see T43 and my guess is that's the body code for the new hatch. It's interesting to see a J though, as that usually denotes japanese spec parts, whereas usually you'd see an A at the start of the last portion of the part number. After the J is 01 which is usually just a manufacturer code, typically followed by two letters, often Z_. ZZ means it's an unpainted part, for example some common paint codes are ZA, ZB, ZC, ZD, etc.

Here is a link to the part i'm referencing, and i can only assume that the part in question is very very similar to it. Looking at the pictures, it has the faux leather finish, so it must go somewhere visible in the rear interior, and the tabs suggest it clips in somewhere. Perhaps under the rear trunk tray? Never having seen a genXI in person also doesn't help.

Wow- thanks! You gave me a lot to digest. Can't wait till Monday to see what Honda Parts Dept says. Appreciate your time on this.

I found it! This part snapped back in and belonged under the left side of the hatch beneath the handle that you pull across to conceal the contents of the hatch. Not visible when standing at the rear and looking down - It fell down and was where I found it after it dropped down. Saves me a trip to the Honda Parts Dept and thanks to everyone who made suggestions, I do appreciate the spirit of this forum - helping each other out. Thanks!

I still think that an Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator would have been cooler than this…

Glad you found the opening, it does seem to be part of the venting system to release cabin air out of the car. I could not find one on my sedan so they must have put them in different spots between the hatch and sedan.

That would have been amusing but if you remember it had two sets of numbers on it so they would have identified it pretty quickly. In fact the more I think about it the stupid-er it made me look. lol Thanks for your comment.
