I am looking for a CTR to replace my current ND2 Miata. Before diving heads first into getting a new one, I like to see if there are any near new ones with low milage for sale here. Please post or reach out if you have one either in red or white for sale.

The truth is I was flip-flopping between the CTR and Golf R the entire time. There are gives and takes on both: I like the Golf R's smaller size over CTR while it doesn't have a slick gearbox that the CTR has. The CTR has button controls and the best front seats while I prefer the Golf R's exterior and interior styling. The CTR has a sportier driving feel than the Golf R but I already own a pretty hard-edge sports car so that is of less significance to me.

I basically went with whichever one with the right spec comes along first. For the CTR I really wanted a Rally Red but they are hard to come by. I also don't want to put up with dealer ADM crap out of principle if nothing else.

Then this week I found a unicorn spec Golf R: a '23 20th Anniversary model in manual (the only model that does not have a sunroof AND available in manual), with only 1,726 miles. There are only an estimated 700 of these in manual in US.

The latest golf r with the euro style package also comes without a sunroof, manual seats, special interior, and akro axle back? However, yes it does unfortunately only come with the DCT as with all the latest golf r's.

Crazy to pay more for less though. I think that package along with the black edition package runs the cost up to mid 50's if i remember right. That price along with no manual, and its softer compliance feel is what swayed me away.


But congrats nevertheless.

Key feature right there. I always shrug my shoulders to autos and DCTs. For under $20k I can buy a used Model 3 performance that will go 0-60 in 3 seconds. Fast has gotten cheap, manuals are rare. I take rare over cheap

Thank you. It's white so it kind of blends in with other cars and harder to spot. I do frequent local cars and coffee (La Encantada, Chapman Mercedes, Mona's Pastry) and yak away with friends and fellow car enthusiasts for hours on end.

No such luck with the car being local. It is located in Portland, OR, some 1,500 miles away. I figured this would make a nice leisure road trip coming back down on PCH over 4-5 days. I have a friend/co-pilot to go with me so the driving itself will be a picnic.

If you drive down the coastal highway, just south of Eureka Ca, take the exit for ‘Avenue of the Giants’ travel south through the giant redwoods since you have to go that way anyhow. Then 30miles +\- down the road you can merge back onto the highway.
It’s worth taking the scenic byway.

Thank you for the great tip. My friend will actually do the Portland to SF leg solo and I will meet him in SF for the remainder of the road trip. I will definitely pass that on to him.
