I noticed a squeak/creak from my engine bay today when depressing the clutch pedal. I'm guessing I need to lubricate the shift fork/ball interface? Anyone else run into this issue?

Noticed the service manual says to "lubricate slave cylinder pushrod". i take it they mean the ball on the end and not the rod inside the boot?

How often does the Civic service manual call for this? I've only ever run into issues on old or high mileage cars. Just fixed this problem on my 2005 S2000 in fact, so that took about 20 years to manifest itself. Sounded like a metal on metal groan/squeak, like damper or door hinges on an old cast iron wood stove.

It's an easy job on the S2000 with a couple caveats, but I have never looked at the Civic setup to know how it compares. On the S2000, high temp grease is used to lube the ball and socket (and also the clutch fork pivots if desired) and assembly grease (or brake pad grease) is used between the rod and bore in the slave cylinder.

i've got 65k miles on my '23. and i drive on a lot of dusty roads so I imagine that would contribute to drying out / contaminating the grease on that exposed area.

i'm going to try spraying it with a little lithium spray grease without unbolting anythign until I can get some of that Honda urea hi-temp grease. i'll let you know if that helps.

I'm guessing I'll have unbolt the slave to really clean out where the ball sits on the clutch fork.

UPDATE: hit the push rod/clutch fork ball with some silicone lube and the noise is 100% eliminated. Will need to remove the slave to properly grease it in the future but nice to know it's something simple and not the throwout bearing.

That's good, and good way to test it real quick. One of the issues that affects the S2000 is that the rod ball wears into the fork socket over time and develops a bit of a nub which hurts clutch feel/finesse. On mine the nub was about 1/16" high and 1/8" diameter. I put the rod in a drill and used a file and sandpaper to get rid of the nub and polish the end of the ball back to a round shape. That and grease made a world of difference in feel and of course cured the noise.

I’m here at the dealership now and the SA said it would be $299 to diagnose the clutch squeak. Told her I already diagnosed it because I sprayed it with lube and the sound went away so how much just to grease it?

“oh, it’s free”
