Anyone from the UK placed a deposit? I'm going to ring some dealers tomorrow.

If my GR Yaris buying experience taught me anything, it's to secure a build slot as soon as you can!

Markups on the FK2 and FK8 when first released were pretty much non-existent in the UK so hopefully that'll continue for the new model.

Last week, I put down a refundable £500 deposite in a dealer based in London.

All these deposit discussions must only apply outside the US, here in the states, at least in Texas, nobody will touch taking a deposit until their inventory sheets show a VIN. I’m sure someone will correct me, but I’ve talked to a lot of dealerships and they all give me the same answer.
I sure hope Honda releases some definitive answers about the Type Rs release, I’m hopefully we will hear something by NYIAS in April, and maybe that puts us on track for a late summer release.

LOTS of US dealers are taking a deposit. What they are doing is putting you in line to be able to purchase. They will go down the list as they get them, basically securing your shot at getting the chance to buy.

How so? 2 friends of mine did this exact thing when the R was due to be released originally in 2017.
LMAO
I'll help you guys here.
I GUARANTEE that the moment a higher offer comes in on the car, "MOST" stores will bump your ass right down the list.
So...Unless you drink with the GM+ personally, the bosses don't give a shit about your list.
The GM will sell that car right out from under you before you can blink, all bc of the GCP!

Your only hope is to find someone honest...

While agree that does happen, I personally know 2 people who put down money for the 2017s and got them. Not all dealers are complete scum bags, but most are.

On a side note, I bought my 2020 for MSRP. Just have to find dealers who want to make a life long customer vs a single sale.

Maybe, maybe not.

My best friend put down a deposit for the 2017. Due to that he was able to purchase the first one in our area and I am fairly certain one of the first few in the entire state.

I just remember it well as he drove it straight to my house from the dealer and let me drive it. That is what sold me on getting one.
