  1. FL5 owner's poll

I test drove a DE5 and it is an interesting car. For the most part IMO it's the same as the Honda but with minor changes throughout. Seems to have a slightly more aggressive tune. The Type S is priced $9K (before tax) more the Honda, $53,600 I think it was ... that's a lot of extra loot for...
  2. How far away from other cars do you park your FL5?

I put cones and flares around my car as well as hire retired armed navy seal guards, one on each corner of the car with walkie talkies, radar and range finder, target designator lasers to pin point possible threats where ever I park . I haven't had any problems. :dunno:
  3. DIY exhaust upgrade ...

Sorry this took so long. I'm not really a sound clip kind of guy but I did the best I could by taping a Hero 4 on my back bumper and running down the road. Headphones might give you more of the true sound. So this exhaust isn't very loud but you can at least hear it inside and outside the...
  4. DIY exhaust upgrade ...

I attempted to make some sound clips/videos but the mic on my Hero 4 Go Pro isn't doing it justice... wind noise and all that. It's not very loud because of the two resonators are still in line, but still much better than stock. I'll try another camera or maybe just a recorder with a good mic...
  5. DIY exhaust upgrade ...

It is FLO-8430152 I bought it from Summit Racing. It's a bit of work to fab up a curved pipe from the cut point to the new muffler... it needs about a 3" rise and into the muffler. You can probably have someone fab one up for you too for a reasonable price.
  6. Are there any Type R dyno results showing power output over different grades of gasoline?

I'm sure it runs best on 93 and more so with a proper tune. On my factory tune and for just puttering around town, 89 -91 seems to be ok, I've never heard any pings or knocks under load.
  7. Are there any Type R dyno results showing power output over different grades of gasoline?

I'm curious about the power levels that can be attained with a stock tune by simply running different grades of gasoline such as; 87, 89, 91, 93 and even high octane aviation fuel/race gas if anyone has ever looked into it. I've searched but could only find a few basic dyno results on 91 vs 93...
  8. I’ll just park next to you thank you

True, beat up pickup truck or someone who will key or dent your car just because you've taken up two spaces. Never mind that there are plenty of spaces all around, there are a lot of jealous idiots out there these days.
  9. What did you do to your FL5 today?

I like those rims. I'd like to find something like that in gold.
  10. FL5 Coolant Reservoir Leak

Dang! I just hit 1000 miles. I wonder if there is anything that you can do before hand to prevent this from happening? I wonder if it's from vibration or just a crappy seam?
  11. What did you do to your FL5 today?

That's cool! Where did you find those?
  12. What did you do to your FL5 today?

Finished this up yesterday. Removed the 26 pound stock muffler system. Installed an 8 pound Flowmaster stainless chambered race muffler with a 3" in and (2) 2.5" outputs, and with two stainless Jones exhaust tips. I raised it up about 1" since the picture. I like the 2 even pipes over what...
  13. What in your opinion is the best exhaust for the FL5?

Other: Design and build your own. It's more work but it's not nearly as expensive either.
  14. DIY exhaust upgrade ...

I never cared for the valved exhaust and the triple uneven exhaust design, so it was time to change it out. I know Honda has to pass Federal sound levels but it just doesn't look/sound very good. This is the monstrosity that lurks under the Honda, all 26 pounds worth. The main exhaust pipe is...
  15. Video: How the FL5 Civic Type R is built in Japan... production video

I stumbled across this video on Youtube and found it to be interesting. It's amazing how many of the body and frame processes are fully automated.
  16. What did you do to your FL5 today?

If you think about it, old school sports cars had bone jarring rides, so the stock CTR is actually plush compared to some of those. I was tempted to try a module out but the best price I found was $246. I decided to dump the money into some exhaust mods instead.
  17. What did you do to your FL5 today?

These things are failing right and left. This is Honda! ... if they can issue a recall because the badge on a vehicle was placed on the wrong side of the hatch, certainly they can issue a recall for a true mechanical failure such as the overflow tank!
  18. What did you do to your FL5 today?

This should be a Honda warranty, correct? :what:
  19. Exploring a clean FK8 spare tire kit install in the FL5.

Any spare tire (FK8 or the RDX) is going to raise the cover. Honda didn't incorporated a deep spare tire well in the FL5 like they did in the earlier FK8. It's going to raise the floor about as your picture there. Still no big deal, better that than stranded with a flat or waiting on rescue...
