Track alignment and brake pads, mild tune, 275 18” Goodyear 3R. I found time in several places later in the day, but with the afternoon heat I couldn’t beat my earlier lap time. I still have a ways to go to catch up with the car’s previous owner….
Took my CTR to Roebling Road on Friday. I couldn’t hang with the GT3RS or GT4RS, but the rest of the Porsches, Mustangs and Corvettes were all victims…. It’s fun being the underdog. Nobody expects a fwd econobox to be so quick.
I did have to back off a few times when water and oil temps...
Installed the 27won shift knob. I really like the look and feel. I had to fight with the locking collar to pull the boot down, but finally succeeded in releasing the tabs with my $1 Harbor Freight pick set.
I wish I had it a few days ago. My hand slipped off the shifter yesterday trying to...
I was worried about the fuel situation, but I actually got way better mpg than I expected.
As for the RS, it gets complicated….. I think driving it on the road would be an exercise in frustration. Then there’s the center lock wheels, no local dealer to address potential warranty issues...
Just returned from a 550 mile road trip which included 200 miles through the hills of TN, NC and north Georgia. The more I drive this car the more impressed I am with it. I was blown away with how satisfying the car is to drive on roads like that. It just feels so natural, the balanced...
Rfpauly, I applaud you for getting the car on track at 73. I’m a couple of years behind, and it’s not getting any easier….
From what I’ve been able to learn, there is no temperature sensor for the brakes. Honda apparently uses some kind of algorithm to trigger the brake system warning. As...
I destroyed a new set of pads in a single session there in 2003, and quit going back for that reason. I only started going back a couple of years ago
In the CTR in April, I had just over 1/16" pad wear front and rear. 115 miles on track, Ferodo DS3.12.
The test results are what they are, and reflect the as-delivered configuration of the cars at the time. As mentioned, tires have improved, along with suspension tech, etc. That was my point in posting the comparison, to show how far performance cars have come in what seems like just a few...
I recently had the opportunity to see several pristine 2005/6 Ford GTs in a private collection. That got me thinking about the performance capabilities of those cars vs our CTR, so I pulled up the C&D Lightning Lap results. Not in the same league, right? Think again…
I don’t put much stock in published values for friction coefficient or temperature range. Each manufacturer has their own testing protocols, much like tread wear ratings on tires. I just know what has worked for me after playing this game for 35 years. (50 if you count autocross….)
The total energy dissipated from a given speed is the same, and the peak deceleration rate is limited by tires in most track/race setups. The PFCs don’t conduct as much heat so the rotors get hotter and the caliper stays cooler. Rotors crack heavily, though…. The Ferodos seem to strike a happy...
Thermal conductivity is a seldom discussed characteristic of brake pad compounds. I ran PFC 90, 91, 01 and 08 for 20 years on my M3 and never had a fluid issue. I tried a set of G-Loc R12 and while the stopping power was great, I boiled my fluid at Road Atlanta. I tried to discuss it with...
