I drove from metro Philly to metro Pittsburgh today to purchase a Civic Hatch Sport Touring in boost blue. Every dealer in Philly was at least $3800 over sticker, and I found one in PGH for MSRP. Drove out this morning to trade my '16 Civic Coupe Touring - got a fair price for it. Got in...
For what it’s worth, I have the wiper problem on my BMW 330i. Need to be extra careful when lifting the wipers.
The BMW has a special procedure for it.
Well said, Patel - when I was younger, I drove some real beaters while saving everything I could for my first home.
Today, I'm in good shape financially, and I still drive inexpensive cars because eventually, they'll be worth almost nothing (unless you get lucky and end up getting a collectable...
Pay down your debt first. Identify interest rates for all your debts and pay off the highest rate first.
You don't want to pay down your car loan at 5% if you have credit card debt at 20%, for example.
Right now, until you get a more solid foundation, it might be best to purchase a car for...
I ordered an Si about 10 years ago. After about 3 months, I discovered the truth (described in post #2). Honda doesn't really make a car to order like Chevy or BMW - a dealer tends to get what Honda ships them.
I got my money back once I realized my Si would never arrive.
I contacted a dealer around Scranton, PA - they want $5K over MSRP. I politely said, "No Thank you".
That puts the cost of a Civic at about $35K. I can get a gently used BMW for that price!
@gtman - when I sell a care outside of a trade deal, the buyer pays 100% of the sales tax.
If I buy a new car without a trade, I pay 6% sales tax on the total sale price. If I buy a new (or used) car with a trade, I only pay sales tax on the difference between purchase and trade. To me...
The problem with selling a car yourself versus a trade is that, at least in Pennsylvania, you get killed with the 6% sales tax. If you trade, you only pay sales tax on the new car price - the trade in value. My trade would be worth about $20K, or an additional $1200 in sales tax.
I saw a nice '22 Civic Hatchback Sport Touring locally. Called the dealer who quoted me MSRP + $3900. I'll pass.
My '16 Civic Coupe Touring is working just fine (although it's now worth almost what I paid for it 5.5 years ago!)
PS - I bought my 2018 CPO BMW 330i just before the Covid storm...
