Savagegeese commented the Bose on the Civic Hatch is as good as the one on the Mazda 3 premium (which they liked). So as long as the type R's is as good as the regular hatch's we should be golden.
My FL1 bose rocks - great base. Its noy audiophile but damn respectable for sure.

The onboard footage from here doesn't bode well for much more impressive cooling:

https://www.civicx.com/forum/thread...ing-fk8s-lap-time-on-sodegaura-circuit.77971/

Having lighter wheels with a bigger contact patch should have helped times as well. If they added a massive sidewall maybe not but 265/30 isn't much larger on sidewall than 245/30.
I'd say if you've put 80K plus miles and absolutely threw it through its paces on track one could see the advantage of a fresh start. Especially if cooling out of the box is addressed.

But agreed, for most it will be a slightly lateral move. Especially with the current market.

Side note. Low production numbers for now hopefully means race teams stick with the FK platform in TC/TCR for another year...for some reason or another never got to see them in person.
In this vid the Spoon rep mentions the FL5 is better but still has cooling issues.
He compares tuning potential at 8min 55sec and mentions the cooling about 9:30sec in.

It seemed like it was his opinion that it will still have cooling issues, not that it does. Not questioning his level of expertise but doesn't seem that anyone has truly verified that yet

I had a Bose system in my 2006 RSX Type S. It was MUCH better than whatever crap was in my 2019 WRX.

I think for him to even mention it is telling. This isn't some guy on a forum guessing it might be an issue. They've already started development on the car.
A lot of the onboard footage from track tests show high temps also.
I'm not trying to shit on the car, it most likely won't be an issue for 90% of the people that buy this car, including myself. I was just addressing what was mentioned above.

No doubt the car will still have cooling issues as all turbocharged 4 cylinder engines, and to an extent all forced induction engines do. The big takeaway is that the the engine bay is way bigger now, its not crammed and super tight like the FK8 so there are steps you can take to reduce it significantly unlike before

Yeah I understand. Again not questioning his level of expertise but the way it was phrased made his response seem assuming it was going to again have cooling issues not that he knows. The way you worded your comment made it seem like he did confirm there are still cooling issues when in fact no one truly knows yet.

Whether it does have issues or not wouldn't bother me. It's just a thing lol, I like to see to it that the right message is relayed

Definitely, but if the extra space allows it to breathe more and it doesn't overheat like the FK8 did can we say there are still issues? Hopefully someone finds out (or I guess doesn't find out lol). Engines get hot regardless, but if it's controlled in the right environment, then the heating shouldn't be an issue.

Depends. Its all hypothetical and nobody really knows. I'm sure a tuner guy comes from a completely different perspective than the average buyer. With the bigger space I mentioned that because the problem can be resolved with bigger parts (bigger turbo, intercooler, downpipes etc) to reduce the heat or accommodate it. The ceiling in which the car overheats probably has been significantly raised for the average driver but as a pro you probably can still get it to overheat. Difference this time I imagine is that it would require less mods to fix. The FK8 to FL5 jump is not a huge difference in generation compared to some other cars so the problems from the FK8 will for sure no doubt carry over.

Unless you’re tracking it there are no issues for certain. Track it then you are likely tuning and putting a new intercooler in so who the fk cares. Gosh you people focus on the wrong things.

Thanks for pointing me back to this channel. I'd dismissed it a while back since some of his work a few years ago was kinda cringe inducing.

But credit where credit is due. I hate my own voice on camera so props for him finding a better presenting style and putting decent content together. All of his recent Japan visit videos are quite good.

Agreed, Spoon know their way around a K20C1 by now. If he says there will likely still be some limitations in cooling I'll remain cautiously optimistic.
