Holy cow! That mark up is insane but all of those fees are crazy too. What is taxable fees, dealer fee, and non tax-fee? Never heard of such fees. I guess basically these are bend over fees.

The other thing that's crazy are the interest rates. I haven't seen rates that high in over a decade. I know lending rates have gone up with the feds movement but I thought car lending rates were still relatively low whereas mortgage rates have jumped to the 8% range? Wondering if maybe this person doesn't have top tier credit score?

The 8.99 is what gets me the most, I can get 3.24 at my bank right now. Lower than that if you do 60 months or less.
Different dealers present numbers in different ways.

Presenting a rate like that allows you to tell everyone the same rate and not play favorites. (QUOTE this guy 5 and this guy 8).

I prefer my team present cash and not payments. In the end you'll get what you qualify for. I've met people in sales who absolutely dislike my approach.

I'm trying to think on the bright side, I got a ton of money for my 14 year old Subaru STI, way more than I would in a "normal" market. I'm also paying more for the CTR than in a normal market. Guess it kinda evens out? :D
i'm assuming you had a 2007 GDB? They're going for 20k in any decent shape with less than 150k miles.

I have a 2002 WRX that's been "slightly modified" that I could get 15k for easy. Hell the fog lights are worth almost 500 bucks alone lol

yeah, most dealers want to talk payments so they can stick it to you and you not realize what happened.

Using logic will get you no where here. Run.
That’s not logic. You can’t compare markup because it’s region/state/city/day specific to each dealership. “Fair” markup is based purely on the selling dealerships emotions.

I understand people's frustration with the price, we all want things for less money (including me!). With that said, when we are comparing the CTR to other cars in the market, are people including the ADMs that are being levied on those cars? It's my understanding that most cars that are not run of the mill are being charged ADMs.
That’s basically impossible to compare though. The amount of markup a dealership deems fair is based purely on the selling manager/owners emotion. When they FEEL you’ve offered enough then they will sell it to you. That’s something that can’t be anticipated or factored in.

I can call a dealership that has a new type r that’s only been on the lot for 10 minutes and offer them 5k over MSRP via the phone. Or I can walk into a dealership and offer 5k over MSRP for the new type R in person. The dealership is probably more likely to work with the person in the dealership. Why? Emotion. The money is the same but emotionally a dealer feels a sale is closer when you show up in person.

Don't take my attempt at humor too seriously.

2008 GR STI 60k miles for a little over 20k. The value like 6 years ago was ~$17k. Mind you it was in near mint condition with new tires/brakes and brought back to fully stock.

This clown had negative equity on a friggin pilot and still was willing to pay 20k over sticker for a type r! If you can’t afford to put money down on a Pilot how can they possibly afford this Type R???

Amazon reported their earnings and forecast is awful. If you're living paycheck to paycheck, maybe you should think twice about that expensive purchase. We're gonna have a rocky 2023.

It’s worse than not having a top tier credit score. Either he used a crummy bank or “shudders” dealer lender or he has at best a mid to high 600 score. The rates not quite insane-o style but it’s almost there.

The craziest part to me is that the person managed to have 2k in negative equity on a Honda pilot and just rolled all of it into a loan with a 20k markup.

honestly seeing post like those make me feel better when I’m driving around in my 500$ beater. I had a deposit on a 2021 Type R at MSRP but the plant shutdowns meant it was never built. Owing that much for that long at that rate, I wonder how many other Type R owners can’t actually afford the car.
