I hate to be the bearer of bad news but anyone trying to talk themselves into thinking this vehicle is not worth more than 40k needs to have their head examined.

it’s a significant improvement over the previous model, it’s a limited production car in an already crazy car market.

I get that people may not like the fact cars are selling for what they are selling for but when you have cars like the SI selling for 35k, used 20/21 models going for 42-48k depending on mileage and location, the Golf R selling for 10-15k over MSRP well before it hits the lot, or making comparisons to a M2 which will likely go for 70k+, you really need to reevaluate your thought process.

the new civic R is a 50-55k vehicle in todays market whether we want to admit it or not. Just because people “wouldn’t pay that” doesn’t mean the car itself isn’t worth it. I personally wouldn’t pay 10k over MSRP out of just principle but someone will, because the car is worth it.

let's just say the car is $45k and you have a $5k bump, what new car out there realistically can you buy that is better ?

So what’s the bad news? There is nothing but opinion and complete conjecture thats been discussed a million times in the past.

My observation is that there appearsto be several parties purely interested in disruption rather than honest theorizing.

Am I over the target? Same for you Roids, maybe a home run?

Its bait just like the “grain of salt” rumors designed to cause a stir. Unfortunately the disgruntled come out when the good news is close.

I just think people need to plan on the following:

less than 5% of people will get this car for MSRP (41-43k USD) will be a realistic assumption

roughly 50% will probably get the car between 2k- 10k over (43k-53k)

remaining folk will be subject to 10k+ over, markets on the west coast, New York, etc. this puts it at 53-58k

rational can’t be “oh this is a Honda Civic, I can get better cars for the money”. What are the better cars? You’re not paying a premium for a Honda Civic, you’re paying a premium based on market conditions, rarity, popularity, and demand.

The only type R I think you’ll find on any lot over the next year or two will be one priced significantly over MSRP (20k+), or a used one after someone drove it for a few months, which will still end up being 50k+ used

You can’t get anything better, or comparable for that matter. What’s the closest competitor, the Golf R? Those are 10-15k Over at every dealership and don’t last more than a day because of limited supply

correct...golf r is fast in a straight line no doubt, but that thing will fall apart after 50-60k miles and also depreciate heavy once this market corrects

I'm now first in line for GR Corolla at MSRP. That means Circuit Edition if I want it. I want a CTR more, not sure if $5k more and definitely not $10k more. Both are quite special, and if I pass now I might miss my one oppahtoonity (moms spaghetti) but I'll also not spend tens of thousands of dollars on something I don't really need.

right but a cars value isn’t solely dependent on how fast it goes 0-60, Honda is far above quality and reliability of a golf.

id argue that the Corolla could potential see some issues as well, packing that type of power in such a small motor. There is nothing appealing about the Corolla other than the power, it’s extremely basic

I’m not a Honda fanboy either, I don’t own a FK8 or anything like that. I just really like the new design, rarity, and history of the brand. I’ve driven tons of “fast, built cars” before. Me buying Type R isn’t about having just a quick car because the market is flooded with quick cars

Not a FL5
No, I completely understand what you're saying. Spring 2023 is what I've been told since the day I put down a deposit. I'm not high on the list so it might even be 2024. Gives me time to save up more for accessories I guess ?
I've been told to wait until summer of '23, and I am sixth on the waitlist. Looking at how things are shaping out, it might even be summer of '24 FML ?

Hope that comes true ? There is really nothing in the market right now or in the near future that I desire more than the FL5
ya while my budget is super limited I strongly agree and hope CTR can be had with MSRP + "mandatory" accessories that I would get anyways.
I like GRC but it's too small, and I have a kid. CTR is a really good daily and a practical car.
