Rear coilovers vs divorced setup

I’ve read through several posts that raise the issue of rear shock mount damage when running a true rear coilover in place of the oem divorced spring setup. I’ve not seen any actual reports of issues with the FL5 or FK8.

Is there any consensus here as to what, if any, modifications need to be done to support true rear coilovers?

I’m considering Moton, JRZ, or possibly KW V4 CS (still a divorced setup) for track use.

It should be fine for most track cars, but if you want to do it in a "set it and forget it" manner, you'll need to reinforce the upper rear shock towers, especially if the tracks you frequent has large/rough kerbing.

Otherwise its fine, true coilovers/non divorced can run much lower spring rates (conversion from motion ratio, wheel rate, etc etc) than divorced set ups so even if you didnt, just dont constantly hit kerbing on track or get air on purpose (same could be said for any set up really)

My normal track is rough, but nothing that should cause damage. There is definitely no air time or risk to wheels.

How would the upper shock towers be reinforced? Are we talking welding or a brace? I don’t intend to cage the car and want to keep the utility of the back seat and rear hatch.

Basically bracing, caged/roll bar, and/or cut out the top part of the shock mounts and weld in thicker mounts.

You should be fine though. Spring rates on a true coilover set up is less than half of the divorced set up spring rate typically.
