Difference between the fl5 and fk8 drivetrain

Is the engine and trans the exact same? As far as I understand the engine is the same minus turbo and inlet pipe and the trans is the same minus the shifter assembly and final gear ratio. Is the connecting rods or anything different? Is the transmission made in the same factory? I believe I heard that the transmission is made in Japan now, was it made there before?
