Ha, definitely was a multi-day job! One of the bigger ones that came in from the forum.
Yeah when I saw that list I figured that would be one heckuva long day.
Break any studs off?

Not on this one luckily. But I have a machine shop nearby who built a custom jig/fixture for when I come in with these dumb turbos. That should tell you something. Its always the top right-most stud that has the most common problems because its the only one not exposed on both ends and is built into the turbine housing. Sometimes even hours with kroil and a torch still wont get it without breaking.

Good thing you didn’t since there is a few “stud” breakers on this forum just waiting for the snap 😆 as you saw lol.
What area are you in ? For a future reference:)

If you were installing an aftermarket turbo and DP at the same time, is it possible to remove the OEM turbo and DP while they are still connected?

Unlikely it would come out easily, if at all. There is an oil drain hose to the oil pan for the return thats buried behind all of it. And also due to the dp length/width bottom angled flange, it likely wouldnt clear the radiator fans and block if you tried to snake it out from the top especially with the turbo attached (which also has to clear the cylinder head studs of the manifold/turbine housing).

If you're trying to save the studs from breaking and trying to sell it, better soak overnight in kroil/pb blaster and just take off the 2 bolts and 2 nuts and leave the 2 studs in the housing. Also taking the nuts off may gall so you have to clean it real good beforehand.

Just curious to when the time comes to do that. See if I could save some time not having to duck with those bolts/studs

Nope, you'll likely be fighting it longer than it would be to take it out one thing at a time. And fighting it is infinetely more frustrating than a possibility of breaking a stud, especially if you're already going to replace the turbo anyway.

Yeah, thanks. It’s a thought I’ve been having recently Maybe to save some time.
