Yo! Long story short, the trans is back together and in the car. I still haven't quite finished the install but should be able to fire it up and test drive in the next couple days. Still don't know exactly what I was doing wrong to assemble the trans. The Honda tech said he just took everything...
I'll be lucky if I make 1-2k on the Si unfortunately. Definitely not worth it if I bought to flip. I bought it to keep long term, and fixed with 99% OEM parts, it's basically a brand new car with 300 miles, but probably only worth around 25k with a rebuilt title.
Honestly depending on how the...
A friend of a friend in a local S2000 group works at Honda dealer. I tried to set it again yesterday and the shift arms still didn't feel right. This dude said to bring it up to his place tonight so we could take a look. Hopefully he has the magic touch!
My air hammer attachments showed up...
Thanks for the words of encouragement my friend!
To add some context to the title of this thread...I looked/ bid on several FL5s over a couple months span. Finally decided to bid on a 2025 si when those all went too high. I won that, then a couple weeks later this one came up and I decided to...
Thanks for the screenshots. I feel like I am overcomplicating it but something is off. I'm going to take it apart and try again tonight. A friend of a friend works at a Honda dealer and said he would help me out this weekend if I can't get it.
Life is busy but definitely more so with kids /...
Sounds like you have some fun projects in the past! The love is gone at this point but it'll come back once I can move past the trans issues. Woke up early this morning to give things another go before work. Thought I had it this time but once it was all together one of the shift arms wouldn't...
Well first attempt at putting the outer case on was a fail. It was holding up on the reverse gear best I can tell. I can't tell exactly where the shift mechanism should be and I wiggled it around while tightening the case, started to try and tighten it down and heard a pop. Turns out I messed up...
I agree with the "while you are there" mentality. Just don't want to go overboard on unnecessary things either.
On a side note, I tried to download the factory service manual someone posted on the forum. It didn't work, but I'd like to have access to something with reassembly instructions. Any...
Well now I'm curious too. If there are weak points for higher hp cars then that wouldn't be a concern for me. Weak points for tracking, this is just going to be a daily driver with some spirited mountain drives sprinkled here and there. I went back and forth on replacing the clutch as well but...
Project is in full swing now. Got both of the trans cases opened up this morning. Confirmed the fl5 and FK8 share the same case. I was pretty sure...but you know. All of the bearing shims were the exact same so that was also good. I am going to try and reassemble tonight so I can start putting...
Well I got the car in the garage to pull the trans. Went to change the LCA and realized I would be dropping the subframe so Im swapping the outer tabs case off the FK8 trans I bought. Side by side everything looks identical so far. Fingers crossed. I may end up buying the spoon or PRL subframe...
Thats a good point. I would use a body guy I have been friends with for 10+ years. I may want to have him look at the damage before I do anything/ or mess something up though...
As far as firewall, massage it back into place the best I can, weld it up to make sure it is strong and safe, maybe pay a body shop if I am not happy with what I can do. Still trying to figure it out as I go really...
Absolutely. I mean it is holding fluid ok so I'm fine with the temp fix lol. No concerns that I will be able to register fine. The airbag didn't blow but the seat belts locked up. I sent those out with the SRS module last week for rebuild / reset. It was about $500
I think I got a decent deal...
I was able to drive the car around the block! Not that this was a good test drive, but it was still exciting. Funny I had never even sat in an FL5 before buying this one.
Anyway, JB weld held up to the short drive, I shifted through 1-3 gears. Obviously alignment is way off still. Once on the...
Not really interested in AWD swap. Id kswap a Subaru before I ever AWD swap a Honda. Hopefully I can get it off the trailer and drive it up the street this week!
I had a fairly productive couple of hours this afternoon. I was able to JB weld the hole in the trans, install the new knuckle and axle, and use an old damaged wheel I had from my FK8 to get this thing sitting back on all four. Also started it up and moved it about a foot on the trailer. The...
Plan is just to daily drive it and enjoy canyon drives. Weather is decent today so I'm going to try and get the suspension together and get it off the trailer. I think most insurance companies won't touch firewall damage. I get that if the frame horn pushed into the firewall or something like...
