Why would it not be normal? That's far too consistent and uniform to be accidental. Those are stamped in to reinforce the metal. When it's flat it's flexible, but doing that adds strength.

It would make sense to be cheaper in JPY due to them being made in Japan now, versus made in the UK with a wonky conversion rate there.
